Shikhar Dhawan and Ayesha Mukherjee Split After 8 Years of Marriage—Here's What We Know

Indian cricketer Shikhar Dhawan and his wife Ayesha Mukherjee have called it quits after 8 years of marriage. Putting all speculations to rest, Ayesha took to Instagram to confirm the news of their split and penned an emotional note titled, 'I THOUGHT DIVORCE WAS A DIRTY WORD UNTIL I BECAME A 2 TIME DIVORCEE...' Shikhar Dhawan is yet to make an official statement on the news.

The couple tied the knot in 2012 and have a son, Zoravar, together. Ayesha, however, has two other children, Rhea and Aliyah, from her first marriage. Ayesha Mukherjee is an Anglo-Indian who was born in West Bengal but moved to Melbourne, Australia, at the age of eight. She is a trained kickboxer and fitness enthusiast and found love for the second time on the internet when Dhawan and she got in touch through Facebook.

Speaking of her split—and highlighting the fact that divorce is still taboo—Ayesha said, "The first time I went through a divorce I was soooooooo fu@kn scared. I felt like I had failed and I was doing something so wrong at that time. I felt as if I had let everyone down and even felt selfish. I felt that I was letting my parents down, I felt that I was letting my children down, and even to some extent, I felt as if I was letting God down. Divorce was such a dirty word. So now imagine, I have to go through it a second time. Woooahhhhhh. That is terrifying..."

Ayesha made another Instagram post titled, '???? ???? ??????? ???? ???, ??? ???? ??? ??? ???????????', where she touched upon women fearing the loss of friendships and other relationships while going through a divorce or after a divorce. "Do not think or feel you are alone going through this or there is something wrong with you. There is absolutely nothing wrong with you and sometimes things and people fall away from your life because they no longer align with who you are...," she put forth.
