Take a Look Inside Dia Mirza's Sustainable Home in Mumbai

Vaibhav Rekhi and Dia Mirza recently announced the birth of their son, Avyaan Azaad, who was born prematurely on 14th May and is currently being cared for in a neonatal ICU. "A sudden appendectomy during my pregnancy and a subsequent and very severe bacterial infection could have led to sepsis and proven to be life-threatening. Thankfully, the timely care and intervention by our doctor ensured the safe birth of our baby via an emergency C-section," revealed the couple.

Ever since the beginning of the pandemic, the actor, producer and UN Environment Goodwill Ambassador has been spending most of her time at her elegant property in Mumbai's Pali Hill area. Boasting organic fabrics, beige-toned upholstery, and a lush green lawn, were you aware that the 1800sqft, three-bedroom apartment was purchased by Dia at the mere age of 19? Uh-huh.

The celebrity abode is also home to a well-stocked bookshelf, plush leather chairs, and remarkable artworks that stand out against white-washed brick walls. The panelled windows in the living area welcome the first ray of sunshine, filling the space with warmth and happiness. "If you sit here quietly long enough, you’ll actually spot quite a few butterflies and bees, and sunbirds as well," the actor revealed in an interview.

Besides the splendid interiors—for which Dia Mirza’s mother, Deepa Mirza can be held partly responsible—the actor's residential property is also a lesson in sustainable living. Making sure that her carbon footprint is minimal, it comes as no surprise that her kitchen is fully optimised to reduce its impact on the environment. Dia Mirza has a waste segregation system under the sink to separate her wet and dry kitchen discards. Plus, she claims that she travels with three glass bottles of water, minimising the use of plastic as far as possible.

In fact, the key element in her living room is a wooden dinner wagon that has been made using reclaimed wood and painted by herself as well. "I just feel happy that we could make use of wood that was abandoned, put it to effective use, and make something beautiful out of it," the environmental activist put forth while talking about the dinner wagon that serves as a countertop in the space.

To give you a glimpse of the clean and green home, Cosmo takes you on a virtual tour of Dia Mirza's estate.
