The infamous 'nepotism' remark, made by Kangana Ranaut on the sets of Koffee with Karan is still alive and kicking. Many Bollywood celebs came out and spoke about facing nepotism in the industry, while some downright denied it. The harsh truth was out for everyone to see and Bollywood obviously can't get over Kangana's bold statements, which is why they found a way to mock her in the biggest Indian cinema award show.

The IIFA Award show hosts Saif Ali Khan and Karan Johar kept the crowd entertained with their comical scenes and wit, but they may have just gone a bit too far when they started chanting "Nepotism Rocks!"

Varun Dhawan joined them on stage, chanting the same when he went to collect his award for The Best Actor in a Comic Role for Dhishoom.

And if it wasn't already clear enough that their chants were targeted at Kangana, Karan abruptly added, "It's better Kangana doesn't speaks, she speaks a lot."

Cheap shot, guys.

Kangana fans were obviously fuming and jumped to her rescue, they took to Twitter to express their anger at the trio.

After all the flak that they received, the actors took to social media to apologise for their disappointing and offensive act.

Karan Johar in an interview to NDTV said, "This is something that I need to say and to clarify. Of course, I do not believe that nepotism rocks. Of course, I believe that only talent and hard work rocks. What we said was meant to be a joke, and I think it was misplaced, misunderstood and I think it went wrong. I regret it. The idea of that joke was entirely mine, so I take total onus. I think we went a bit far with the Kangana mention."

"No matter what I feel about what Kangana said on my talk show, I feel that I was raised to be a dignified, chivalrous and decent person. That's the upbringing that I was given, and I feel that I failed on those accounts. No matter what my thoughts or personal issues on this, I should not have repeatedly brought up this issue. So for that, I am deeply regretful," he added.

Varun Dhawan took to Twitter and said,

Saif Ali Khan in an interview apologised and said, "To me at IIFA it was just a joke and nothing more to be read into. But now I feel had we given it more thought, we could've really finished this ongoing public discourse on nepotism more decisively."

"I respect Kangana tremendously for what she's achieved, for coming up the hard way. We're a mutual admiration society. She also agrees that despite having illustrious parents, I too have had an uneven beginning in Bombay. I understand what Kangana means by her stance on nepotism, though I have a slightly different take on it. People knew who I was because of my parents but that didn't necessarily give me an easy ride. Look at the spate of terrible movies I've starred in and you know that phase lasted for a long while," he added.
