Eat Your Way to a Flatter Stomach

A flat tummy has been in our forever wish list. But the current situation, where we are stuck at home with minimal movement, isn’t helping the cause. If you have been browsing YouTube and seen every video that’s there to be seen about losing belly fat, then let us tell you, only looking at them won’t work. So, what’s coming in between your plans and action? Did we hear laziness? Well, you are not alone then. But the good news is you can still get a flat tummy by including certain food in your diet. Sounds easy right? Here’s what you need to eat on a day-to-day basis to blitz tummy fat.

Eat fibre-rich food

Dr Namita Nadar, PHD Food and Nutrion, Chief Nutritionist, Fortis Hospital Noida, says, “Increase high-fibre food in your diet. These food have high roughage  and keep you fuller for long.” This means you wouldn’t get those uncontrollable hunger pangs in between meals. Eat whole grains like oats, millets, etc.

Eat the salad first

This is a trick that will curb mindless bingeing and help shed fat from your midsection. Eat the salad before the entrée. This will fill you up and give you a fibre boost, even before you start with the main course.

Add ginger to your food

“Ginger is a natural anti-inflammatory,” says Lovneet Batra, clinical nutritionist and founder of Nutrition by Lovneeet. She suggests adding it to your food and beverages to reduce bloating. Ginger soothes the digestive system as well.

Include, raw, unprocessed food in your diet

Unprocessed food can be processed more quickly and efficiently. “Unprocessed or raw food do not have unhealthy preservatives and sodium,” says Lovneet. Avoid sauces, dressings, pickles and the likes that have added preservatives in them.

Munch on nuts

Nuts are  a healthy snack option, when you feel like munching on to something in-between meals. They are rich in in monounsaturated fats, Vitamin E and minerals. They will keep you satiated for long and are also good for your skin and hair.

Don’t give up on probiotics

Pro-biotics are the good bacteria that keep the gut happy. They help the digestive system break down food and thereby aid in digestion. “Take a daily serving of yoghurt, buttermilk or kimchi,” says Dr Nadar.
