When monsoon comes calling and the skies darken, what are the first thoughts that cross your mind? Do you feel like taking a day off, sit by the window or balcony and watch rain splashing down in all its glory or find comfort in a steaming cuppa and devour your favourite books with occasional looks cast at the grey skies? Or you may want to take a leisurely walk in the neighbourhood park, catch the rain drops and just feel happy to be able to experience this? This time of the year, with the pandemic far from over, stepping out to just take a walk in the rain may not be an option. But fret not, you can still experience the pleasures of monsoon through some popular, feel good movies. Here are a few rainy day that would comfort you the way sipping hot chocolate underneath a quilt does in the peak of winters.

All the Bright Places

If you have already read the novel by Jennifer Nivin, then the movie is a must watch. It’s a sad romance between Elle Fanning and Justice Smith but speaks about the right issues affecting youngsters like depression and loneliness. But just keep a box of tissue handy, there are some highly emotional scenes.


A Rituparno Ghosh classic, the story is set in Calcutta of yore and deals with the subject of longing and unfulfilled desires. An impoverished village factory worker played by Ajay Devgn reaches out to his well-off friends for financial aid. He decides to drop by his ex-fiancé played by Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, who dumped him over a wealthy proprietor. He finds out that things have changed drastically since their last meeting and Aishwarya now resides in poverty. On a rainy night, they light a candle and sit down to talk about a life they never lived.


Even if you aren’t an eternal romantic, you still wouldn’t be able to resist the charm of this movie adapted from the book of the same name by Nicolas Spark. Some mushy rain scenes and a story line that makes you believe in love, what more can you ask for!! And not to forget Ryan Gosling, who looks absolutely drool-worthy.

Definitely Maybe

Ryan Reynolds plays a divorced but doting dad who has to tell his daughter about how he met her mom and the other two loves of his life. His daughter insists that knowing her dad’s life story would help her understand why her parents separated. The movies ends up to be a narration of epic romance with some unexpected twists and turns. The movie is sure to make your day!

Unicorn Store

The movie that marks Brie Larson's directorial debut would get you to acknowledge the power of imagination and magic. The Story is about a struggling artist who believed she owns a unicorn after visiting the mystical Unicorn Store and how her life changes after that. The movie is just perfect for rainy days where you have to make your own imagination run amok and have a little fun

Rain Man

This Oscar-Winning movie was one of the first on-screen depictions of autism. It is a tale of two estranged brothers, their epic road trip and their fragile relationship. Charlie Babbitt, played by Tom Cruise finds out that his father has left his fortune to his elder bother Raymond; an institutionalised autistic savant and left him a 1949 Buick Roadmaster convertible. He kidnaps Raymond and the pair embark on a road trip. On the way Charlie discovers emotions he never felt before and there are some not-to-be missed scenic routes that they take in their journey.

Before Sunrise

This film is timeless and so are the two other movies in the trilogy. This movie kicks off like any other romantic movie where an American backpacker meets a French woman on a train in Europe and the two impulsively decide to get down t Vienna and explore the city. Filled with some heartwarming scenes, this movie will make you believe that anything can happen and your life can change in an instant.

A Wrinkle in Time

This fantasy epic that features Oprah Winfrey, Mindy Kaling, and Reese Witherspoon is a story of goodness triumphing evil. A fun movie with some amazing special effects that’s sure to keep you glued to the screen till the end.

Midnight in Paris

Midnight in Paris is again a timeless movie about love. Gil, an aspiring writer struggling with his novel, gets mysteriously transported to Paris of 1920s where he meets legendary artists such as Fitzgerald, Hemingway and Stein. He finds love in the mistress of Picasso. Rain plays an important part in this movie, it represents nostalgia. The last scene where it’s raining and Gabriella says, ‘Paris is the most beautiful in the rain.’ Gil is reminded of the past where legends called Paris home and walked in the streets and ate at the cafes.
