There is always a reason to return to the world of Bridgerton. Between the elaborate gowns, complicated romances, and Lady Whistledown's scandalous newsletters, the Netflix series has given us plenty to obsess over. And now, with a series centred on a young Violet Bridgerton and her romance with Edmund Bridgerton in the works, we are getting another glimpse into the stories that shaped the family we know today. After Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story proved that the franchise could thrive beyond the eight Bridgerton siblings, the possibilities are endless.
While Violet and Edmund's love story is certainly one we are looking forward to, the ton is full of characters whose lives deserve more than a few scattered flashbacks. What made Portia Featherington so determined to secure her daughters' futures? How did Lady Danbury become the formidable woman who can silence an entire ballroom with a single look? And what about the women whose stories have barely been explored? Here are a few Bridgerton spin-offs we would happily clear our schedules for.
Portia Featherington
Portia Featherington is one of the most fascinating characters in the series, and we need to know how she became the woman she is today. A spin-off could explore her early life, her marriage to Archibald Featherington, and the financial pressures that shaped her approach to family and relationships. Her determination to secure "profitable" marriages for her daughters can sometimes come across as ruthless, but a deeper look at her past could explain why financial security means so much to her.
The Featherington sisters growing up
Building on that, Penelope's journey from overlooked wallflower to Lady Whistledown has been one of the show's biggest storylines, but imagine a series following all three Featherington sisters as they grow up under Portia's watch. Prudence, Philippa, and Penelope have very different personalities, and their childhoods could explain a lot about their adult relationships. Between sibling rivalries, their mother's matchmaking schemes, and the pressure to secure good marriages, there is plenty of potential for comedy and drama. It would also be interesting to see how Penelope developed her sharp eye for gossip long before she began writing about the ton.
Kate Sharma's mother and the family she left behind
Kate Sharma's story is deeply tied to family, responsibility, and putting other people's needs before her own. But we know relatively little about her mother and the years before the Sharmas arrived in London. A spin-off could explore Kate's childhood, her relationship with her mother, and the experiences that made her so protective of Edwina. It could also offer a glimpse into the family's life in India, giving us a richer understanding of Kate's upbringing and the expectations she carried into adulthood.
Lady Danbury
Queen Charlotte already gave us a glimpse into a younger Agatha Danbury's life, including her unhappy marriage and her friendship with the queen. But a dedicated series could go much further. How did she build her independence after becoming a widow? How did she establish herself as one of the most influential women in the ton? And what did her life look like while navigating a society determined to dictate how women should behave? Lady Danbury has the wit, ambition, and complicated history to carry a series of her own.
Alice Mondrich and her unexpected entry into high society
Alice Mondrich offers a perspective we do not always get in Bridgerton. After her husband Will's connection to the aristocracy changes their family's circumstances, Alice has to navigate a world with its own rules, expectations, and social hierarchies. A spin-off could follow her adjustment to high society while balancing marriage, motherhood, and her own ambitions. Her story could also explore the experience of entering a world that has never quite considered you one of its own.
With Violet and Edmund's romance next on the agenda, there is plenty to look forward to. But if Netflix is planning to expand the Bridgerton universe further, we hope it remembers that the most interesting stories are not always about the people at the centre of the ballroom. Sometimes, the woman watching from the sidelines has the best story of all.
