It’s safe to say that the fictional world has healed the world at large and made adulting a tad bit easier. As you get older, the world starts looking more real than ever. Instead of worrying about making it in time for the 6:00 p.m. daily soap, you have to scratch your head over meeting deadlines, filing tax returns, paying house bills, and of course, the never-ending chores.
And thus, watching a character that either resonates with you or sweeps you off your feet becomes your favourite coping mechanism. Most times, all you can think about is what if they were real? And you’re not alone; an entire tribe has already prayed to have their treasured (also fictional) men bestowed on the planet.
Here are fictional men we wish existed for real:
Derek Shepherd from Grey’s Anatomy

If you ask us, we think it's his eyes that do the magic, but it’s probably more than that. And episode 10 of season 7 (episode name: 'Adrift and at Peace') is alone enough to understand who Derek was at his core, for it was he who helped Cristina navigate through her trauma, bringing her back to life. A compassionate doctor, a fine teacher, a supportive sibling, a good father, and a forgiving friend, the character sets a high bar that is almost impossible to achieve.
Phil Dunphy from Modern Family

Out of the 10,000 storylines on the show, Phil stood out in at least 9,999 of them. Solely because of the kind of father he chose to be to all three kids. He let Haley make her own decisions, even when they didn’t make sense to him. He turned Alex’s biggest insecurities into confidence, and turned into the biggest cheerleader for Luke at all times. The point is, Phil Dunphy: the father is the hero of the TV universe even though the internet is obsessed with Phil Dunphy: the husband (and for obvious reasons).
Jake Peralta From Brooklyn Nine-Nine

Read the Harry Potter series (because of how much it meant to Amy), launched a punch at his favourite author when he called Holt a ‘homo’, knew when to take a setback, and gave up on his dream job to be a better father (it takes courage), the list is almost never-ending. But these instances should be enough to understand why the B99 tribe wish for him to exist for real.
Ross Geller from Friends

The ‘we were on a break’ argument may never settle, but Ross Geller deserves to be looked at as one of the most real (read selfless) characters. Sure, he had his flaws, but he would rip his chest to love when he loved.
