Summer isn’t over yet because a 'The Summer I Turned Pretty' movie is officially in the works

The final episode of The Summer I Turned Pretty aired yesterday, and before you start grieving, we’ve got some exciting news. We're getting a TSIP movie!

Adapted from Jenny Han’s bestselling novels, the show quickly became the ultimate Gen Z comfort watch. It delivered everything we loved in a summer drama: first loves, heartbreaks, friendships, family bonds, and, of course, the dreamy Cousins Beach setting. At the heart of it all was Belly Conklin, played by Lola Tung, navigating a complicated love triangle with brothers Conrad and Jeremiah Fisher. Over three seasons, fans laughed, cried, and grew with Belly’s messy but relatable coming-of-age story, making it one of the most talked-about teen shows in recent years.

And just when we thought the third season marked the end, Jenny Han dropped the ultimate surprise: The Summer I Turned Pretty: The Movie is officially in the works. Even better, Han herself will write and direct, ensuring it stays true to the story fans fell in love with. Lola Tung will return as Belly, with Christopher Briney back as the brooding Conrad Fisher.

At its core, The Summer I Turned Pretty was more than teen romance. It was about two best friends, Laurel and Susannah, spending every summer at Cousins Beach with their kids, creating a second family of sorts. It was in this sun-soaked paradise that Belly grew up, secretly pining for Susannah’s older son Conrad long after summer ended. Her love life? Totally complicated. She got together with Conrad, then dated Jeremiah, even planning a wedding with him before calling it off. That decision to her to Paris, where she finally got to explore who she was beyond the confines of Cousins Beach and her Fisher romance drama. In true melodramatic style, she and Conrad eventually found their way back to each other, ready to turn childhood love into something real.

The show gave us swoony moments, messy drama, killer soundtracks (hello, Taylor Swift), and aesthetics that ruled online moodboards for months. Now, the movie promises a final chapter—a love letter to fans who’ve grown with Belly over the years.

Han hinted that the film will explore a major milestone in Belly’s life—something the series couldn’t fully capture—without spilling too many details. Fans are buzzing: will it finally settle the Belly–Conrad–Jeremiah love triangle, or show Belly stepping into adulthood with bigger challenges than summer romances? The movie could also explore untold backstories, like Laurel and Susannah’s youth, adding depth to the bonds that shaped their kids’ world. Romance, family, nostalgia—this film has the potential to tie it all together while giving fans something fresh to hold onto.

So stock up on popcorn and tissues, girlies. Cousins Beach is calling us back one more time—and this time, it’s hitting the big screen.
