While you may have had your share of probiotics in your diet as refreshing smoothies or even salad dressings, did you know that they are a great skin food too? Biome-balance probiotic skincare products are the latest rage in the beauty circles due to their beneficial effect on beauty concerns such as rosacea, acne and even premature ageing.

Yes, you may want to clear a shelf in your refrigerator for your probiotic beauty supplies too!

"Probiotic when consumed starts to immediately convert the bad bacteria into good. These bacteria help in skin inflammation and eczema, eradicating bad bacteria that cause pimples and infections," says Dr BL Jangid, dermatologist, SkinQure Clinic.

These biome-balancing products are especially great to help your skin recuperate from the vagaries of life...and pollution too!

Celebrity dermatologist Kiran Sethi, Isya Aesthetics says, "I believe that we are destroying the microbiome of our skin with pollution, the water we get in India and too many topical antibiotics. This causes recurrence of acne, sensitivity and even ageing. The skin needs good bacteria with probiotics, good food for good bacteria to eat so it multiplies (prebiotics). There are no side effects to use these, but use good quality and refrigerate these products so they stay healthy."

So, here's what the experts have to say about getting started with your probiotic regime:

How can we include probiotic products in our skincare regime?

"You can add some capsules which are available in the market. But before buying any of the products or medicine, it’s recommended to discuss this with your dermatologist first," says Dr Jangid.

He also suggests that if you are dealing with frequent bacterial or viral skin infections, including probiotics in your skincare routine is a good move. "In case if someone’s having dry or wet eczema, they can also use these probiotics safely. The condition is widely known as atopic dermatitis," he says.

What products should I use?

"If you are acne-prone, have rosacea or ageing skin, you can add products that have probiotics. Biopelle urbane renewal is a great option available in India. But with probiotic products, do refrigerate them and use daily. You must use for at least 3-6 months to see results," says Dr Sethi.
