When it comes to skincare for men, societal norms and misinformation are rampant. However, news flash- Skincare is for EVERYONE!
And, actor Ankur Bhatia agrees, having learnt it the hard way. "Skincare for men is often overlooked and I am a prime example! I am lucky to have good skin and that's part of the reason why I never used skincare products much. I didn't care about it for the longest time and because I didn't pay attention it started getting affected. Once, I had wear a beard for a film and they would use glue on my face that caused major breakouts. Then, it became more frequent because I wasn't washing my face or taking enough care. I used to sleep with make up. As men we are not used to make up. I keep myself hydrated now and I don't sleep with make up on. Hydration is directly proportional to skin care. Stay away from alcohol and stay away from smoking. These things matter and these are the things I have done to maintain good skin," says the actor, who was recently spotted in the webseries Aarya opposite Sushmita Sen.
Razor blades, FTW!
The actor was also a part of Payal Sethi's Grant St. Shaving Co. which won the best film award at The Smalls Film Festival and the Florence River to River Film Festival. As the movie title suggests, the actor did pick up his love for razor blades from this flick!
"The interesting thing of this movie was that the main prop of the film is a shaving blade. The old man breaks his shaving blade which was given to him by his wife who is no more. So, he goes out to find the same razor blade in the city and that's how he finds me. I learnt something from this film. We are used to certain things for our grooming. We use them over and over again. I am in love with my razor blade and I buy the same one again and again. My skin has adapted to it. I don't experiment too much and I stick to the same ones. If something has suited you, it's better to not experiment with the winning combination."
Skincare mantra
"It's very simple. I don't use too many products. Every few days I would put some kind of pack. Mostly I use multani mitti that is easy to get and easy to use. Just pour some rose water or just water and the mud mask is ready! Apart from that I don't use much. I just wash my face with a mild face soap. When I am shooting I make sure that I don't go to bed without washing my face and removing the makeup. I sometimes use a moisturizer and if I am out in the sun, I use a sunscreen lotion. That's pretty much it."
