While Spring and Summer runways boast gorgeous colours every year, this time the vibrant display extended far beyond garments. It’s no secret that lipstick, eyeshadow, and even blush can complement your outfit, acting as accessories in their own right—but what about your eyelashes?

The reign of coloured mascara

This year, lashes took centre stage. Makeup artists painted this often underutilised asset in everything from stark white to bold scarlet. At Diotima, they layered lashes with white, crimson, and bright blue, echoing the brand’s focus on contemporary Caribbean identity. The red lashes felt rebellious yet refined, adding a sultry pop of colour against healthy, sun-kissed skin. At the LaQuan Smith show, models wore minimal but powerful blue mascara—a “sexy look, but one that appeared more demure than the graphic liner that we would typically create,” said celebrity makeup artist Sheika Daley. Dries Van Noten, never one to shy away from unconventional beauty, showcased bold lashes in neon orange and pink. Some looked like they’d captured a sunset, with ombré mascara fading from fuchsia to soft pink. These showstoppers sat against clean, dewy complexions for a truly wearable statement.

Although runway makeup and bright colours can feel daunting, makeup artists assert that coloured mascara can be both accessible and fun. The secret? Thoughtful application—and finding a look that suits your personal style.

Here’s how to amp up your gaze with coloured mascara.

Lash prep is essential

Start by curling your lashes and applying a primer. This protects and elongates your lashes while creating a base that helps coloured mascara grip and last longer.

Start small

Makeup is about confidence and feeling like your best self. If you’re just dipping your toes into this trend, try coloured mascara on your lower lashes only. It’s a subtle way to experiment while still drawing attention to the eyes. When you’re ready for a bolder look, layer your coloured mascara over black or brown. This adds contrast, making the colour pop without overwhelming your features.

Let colour theory guide you

•    Blue mascara brightens the whites of the eyes and flatters every skin tone.
•    Red works beautifully on deeper complexions and adds warmth to the face.
•    White delivers a clean, high-fashion effect—best paired with minimal makeup and well-groomed brows.

Eye colour can also help you choose:

•    Purple and blue enhance brown eyes.
•    Green and bronze make hazel and green eyes pop.

Best of all, this trend is low-commitment but high-impact. A single tube of coloured mascara can refresh your makeup routine completely—and you can dial up or down the intensity depending on the occasion.

Whether you’re ready to dive into intense hues or just want to add a playful twist to your everyday look, colourful lashes are an easy, statement-making way to embrace the joy of summer beauty.
