Gone are the days moisturising your lips was enough. To give way to a supple, plump pout, you must exfoliate at least once a week as well.

When your lips get dry and chapped, they often tend to flake and peel. Lip scrubs—generally prepared from physical abrasives such as apricot pits, sugar, or microbeads, work by manually removing dead or peeling skin from your lips. Besides, regularly exfoliated lips allow for better absorption of hydrating formulas such as oils, balms, and masks. The result? Smooth, rosy lips!

Cosmetic dermatologist, Dr Rinky Kapoor shares a quick and easy—and prepared using readily-available ingredients—DIY scrub recipe, that'll instantly revive dry, flaky, and chapped lips.

Ingredients:

1 tbsp of Ground Coffee

1 tbsp of Brown/Cane Sugar

½ tsp of Extra Virgin Olive Oil

1 Vitamin E Capsule

Directions:

1) Mix the above mentioned ingredients and apply the paste on your lips.

2) Gently scrub the concoction (not too harshly), and leave it on for 5 minutes.

3) Afterwards, rinse off the scrub with lukewarm water.

The caffeine content and antioxidants present in coffee rejuvenate and tighten your lips, while the sugar granules provide exfoliation and get rid of dead skin. Olive oil, on the other hand, lends moisturising properties and is an ideal solution for those who suffer from severely dry, chapped lips. And, if you're looking to pay extra attention to the skin on your lips, add Vitamin E to the mix!

Vitamin E boosts circulation, helps generate new skin cells, and fights free radical damage. It is also believed to protect your skin from the damage caused by UVA and UVB rays. Since your lips are often exposed to sunlight—and don't possess the protective pigment, melanin—adding a Vitamin E capsule to a homemade scrub can help shield your lips, and possibly repair sun damage as well.
