The gender wage gap issue has been talked about a lot, globally, but in India, it has only been broached a couple of times in the recent past. Influencers are still hesitant to voice their opinions on the fact that women should be paid as much as men, for doing the same job.

In Bollywood, particularly, most celebrities tend to shy away from the question — but, it doesn't change the fact that female actors should be paid as much as their male counterparts for helming a film. And while actors like Sonam Kapoor and Deepika Padukone have been vocal about this so far, the latest voice of reason to join them is Varun Dhawan.

During an interview with Anupama Chopra, the actor, who is currently promoting his new film, Sui Dhaaga, spoke about how female actors need to be given their due in the industry. Especially with respect to Alia Bhatt, with whom he has acted in many films and even made his debut.

"Why has it taken the trade and the industry as a whole until a Raazi to realise that Alia Bhatt is a big star. Be it Badrinath Ki Dulhania, Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania, and even 2 States were all hits and Alia Bhatt was just a responsible for its success as I was or Arjun (Kapoor) was," he said.

He continued, saying he's always prompted Alia to charge more, "I would always tell Alia, what are you doing? You take very little money. Are you stupid? Increase your price."

We completely agree with Varun — female actors should charge more, because they are an integral part of the film, too.
