Do Jade Rollers Work?

I’M SKEPTICAL

Dr Geeta Mehra Fazalbhoy Celebrity Dermatocosmetologist

“Face rollers are all the rage right now. They are all over social media and we’ve also seen some of the biggest celebrities around the world endorse them. And while I’d like to believe that rolling a cute-looking stone would give one perfect skin, it really isn’t that simple. There are a bunch of factors attached to it, and not to mention a regimen comprising ingredients that have been proven scientifically to heal, protect, and improve your skin’s condition. At our clinic, we’ve seen Dermaroller and Dermapen show better results, as both these tools are a form of collagen induction therapy, designed specifically to rejuvenate skin. Jade rollers, on the other hand, might not have long-term benefits. It’s a good tool to massage your face with—it does increase blood circulation. And it might help de-puff your face—a result of not getting enough sleep—but I don’t think rollers are beneficial in tackling stubborn skin concerns like signs of ageing, sagging skin, lines, etc.”

I’M SOLD

Dr Kiran Kaur Sethi Founder, Isya Aesthetics

“I’m all for trying new beauty tools and I have definitely taken a shine to the gemstone face rollers. From a scientific standpoint, it is a rock...but if you believe ancient cultures, it’s pretty powerful. [Jade rollers have been used in China for centuries to massage the skin.]

But let’s start with facts:

a) Face rollers help all your potent skincare potions sink in better into skin;

b) They help de-puff the face (keep it in the fridge and watch it work like a magic wand!);

c) They also help you efficiently massage facial muscles, stimulating lymphatic drainage.

And all these points are a good enough reason to include this tool in your daily beauty regime. We’ve all heard of facial exercises that can tighten skin, and this tool is a great (and super-easy) way to achieve that. Religious use of face rollers wouldn’t just relax your muscles, but in the long run, will also ensure your skin doesn’t sag.”

THE TAKEAWAY
Alas, not the holy-grail miracle cure you seek, but jade rollers could offer de-puffing and absorption perks. And hey, they definitely up your fancy quotient. Plus, when people enjoy something, they’re more likely to stick with it. So if facial rolling helps you remember to apply your serum and do your skin-care routine, go for it!
