5 home-grown perfume brands that you need to try

When one thinks of perfumes, iconic ones by global brands come to mind—think Chanel No.5, 212 by Carolina Herrera, or Bombshell by Victoria’s Secret. But, in recent years, a new crop of home-grown perfume brands are making their mark on the scent scene with fragrances that are inspired by contemporary processes but have their roots in Indian memories and ingredients.
Read ahead for the ones we love, and get ready to smell like heaven.

Aeronot

Aeronot is the latest artisanal brand that has cropped up on the perfume radar and has a wide range of interesting scents that will quickly become your favourite. If you’re on the hunt for a sweet vanilla fragrance, then look no further than their November perfume, and if spicy, earthy scents are more your jam, then The Might of Africa from their exclusive collection will be the right pick. We particularly love the Tuscany Brunch that has notes of litchi, bergamot, and patchouli, and transports you to a sunny brunch in the Italian countryside.

Naso Profumi

Naso Profumi by Astha Suri is all about sustainable scents that marry long-lost Indian perfumery with new-age techniques. They use pure extracts from Indian spices and herbs and blend with oils sourced from around the world for a truly unique scent. Their bestselling fragrance, saffron infused in musk and amber has earthy notes of musk oil, saffron attar, and amber extract.

Wisdom Fragrances

Founded by Sheetal Desai, Wisdom Fragrances is a home-grown perfume label that has a select range of scents, candles, and reed diffusers. The fragrances come in chic glass bottles with gold tops and are named after numbers—for example the No. 22 is an ode to the rose, No. 77 is a bright and fresh perfume that will remind you of the sea, and No. 130 is a heady scent with notes of spices and oud.

Bombay Perfumery

Bombay Perfumery by Manan Gandhi is all about paying homage to the essence of India through scents—think perfumes like Madurai Talkies with notes of jasmine, bergamot, and neroli or the Chai Musk that has lemongrass, ginger root, and sandalwood that will remind you of a warm cup of chai. The fragrances come with aesthetic custom packaging that is a feast for the eyes!

All Good Scents

The brainchild of perfumer Rajiv Seth who founded the brand back in 2013, All Good Scents offers a wide range of niche perfumes and perfume sprays. Though their approach is modern, the scents are rooted in Indian traditions. The Lolette, for instance, comes in a chic blue geometrical bottle and has notes of coconut, plum, vanilla and rose, which will make you smell delicious all day long. Seth also conducts online workshops where he explains the many facets of perfumery and helps you find one that matches your personality.
