Beauty trends we spotted at the FDCI x Hyundai India Couture Week 2023

Last night saw the curtains closing on the FDCI x Hyundai India Couture Week 2023—one of the country’s most significant fashion events. And along with admiring the outfits, we’ve also been keeping an eye out for all the make-up and hair trends that took centre stage. We saw some new and some versatile trends that have stood the test of time, but all of them had us taking notes! It's going to be a season of bold lips, muted make-up, siren eyes, and embellishments that have the power to elevate any outfit you choose. These are just a few among many beauty trends that can help you shake up that daily or special occasion make-up routine you have committed to memory. Face embellishments 

If beauty trends were competing each other, face embellishments would’ve bagged a podium finish. They are enjoying their (extended) moment in the sun and we couldn’t be happier. These temporary adornments can transform even the most muted make-up look into a work of art. And that’s precisely what they did on the runways of FDCI x Hyundai India Couture Week 2023. We saw models walking with pearl embellishments in various placements that elevated their look on the ramps of Falguni Shane Peacock, JJ Vallaya, and Rohit Gandhi+ Rahul Khanna. Whether you prefer the under-eye placement or the outer and inner corners of the eye, the runway looks of these designers will give you all the inspiration you need for your next soiree! 

Bold eyes

Bold eyes are to make up what denim is to fashion—versatile and timeless. Eyeliner application (and the eyeshadows that go along with it) are constantly evolving. While most of us stick to our trusted and perfected wings, Tarun Tahiliani, Ritu Kumar and Rimzim Dadu’s FDCI x Hyundai India Couture Week 2023 presentations showed us a few trending ways to utilise our eyeliners. Rimzim Dadu gave us inspiration for the perfect smokey-eye, couturier Tarun Tahiliani showed us how siren eyes with a muted lip accentuates a look, and models at Ritu Kumar gave us edgy glam vibes with their smoky but diffused eyes and subtle contouring. 

Muted dewy make-up  

Basically, the muted dewy make-up look is the love child of the no-makeup-makeup look and the glazed-skin look. And as one of the biggest beauty trends of this season, it was all over the Gaurav Gupta, Dolly J ,and Shantanu & Nikhil shows. This look allows your features to take centre stage as they are enhanced by the use of a dewy primer, light foundation, highlighter, and natural contour techniques. Oh, and don’t forget to seal it to perfection with a nude-ish lipstick. 

Red hot lips  

We’ve seen red lips emerging on red carpets, fashion shows around the world, and now closer to home as well. It’s safe to say that the red lipstick is quickly rising to the top, once again. Of course, bold lips aren’t a one-hot minute trend but red had gone dormant for a bit in the middle. However, watching models sporting flaming hot lips while strutting down the runways of Roseroom by Isha J, Anamika Khanna, Varun Bahl, Rajesh Pratap Singh, and Rahul Mishra is making us reach for our own red lipsticks. 

Slicked back wet hair look

If we had taken a shot every time we saw a model with slicked-back hair at the FDCI x Hyundai India Couture Week 2023, we’d probably be inebriated at most shows. Not that we’re complaining; nothing says runway-ready better than this hairdo! Numerous designers such as Rohit Gandhi + Rahul Khanna, Ritu Kumar, Falguni Shane Peacock, Shantanu & Nikhil, Anamika Khanna, Rimzim Dadu, and Roseroom by Isha J opted for variations for this look. While some chose a slicked back up-do, others chose to leave the hair loose with some glossy waves. This look is an inspiration for the nights you’re wearing an outfit that deserves all the attention.
