Six dermats tell us what they think about Kim Kardashian’s Skims Sculpt Face Wrap

There’s no shortage of beauty tools and “innovative” beauty must-haves that we’re often told will 'transform our skin'. The latest rabbit in the hat is Kim Kardashian’s Skims Seamless Sculpt Face Wrap, which promises to give you that snatched look that gua shas and jade rollers have been delivering for years now.

Now, Skims has been a cult favourite brand for its revolutionary shapewear collections. We say revolutionary because it's well and truly inclusive, with a diverse selection of shapewear and other clothing for all body types. Of course, there are a few questionable launches like the infamous nipple bra that promises to provide support and shape, without hiding the peekers (just why?). But nothing would have prepared us for the eerie face wrap that looks straight out of an ‘80s slasher flick—you know the ones that the killer would wear because he had a deformed face or just ‘cuz.

This face wrap, priced around ₹4,550, claims to sculpt your jawline and lift your neck using the brand’s signature shapewear fabric and collagen-infused yarns. Yes, collagen. In yarn (yes, we're sceptical too). And naturally, the internet had lots to say. Some called it genius, while others asked if it came with a matching straitjacket. But the real question is, does it work? Or is it just another beauty “must-have” that you really don’t need to have?

We asked six renowned dermatologists to share their thoughts on this new, supposedly innovative product, and here’s what they had to say.

Dr Kiran Sethi, dermatologist and founder, Isyaderm

“There’s no data to suggest that wearing a face wrap or tight bandages like these around your face will reduce sagging. You’d probably have to wear it for years and years to see any moderate changes. The fact of the matter is, walking around with your face all bandaged would affect your daily life quite a bit. Sometimes, with all these trends, we’re forgetting that life is infinitely more important than a tool that might improve your sagging by one per cent. We really need to prioritise how we live our lives over these Instagram trends.”

Dr Geetika Srivastava, dermatologist and founder of Influennz Clinic

“These are like Spanx—but for your face. Do Spanx give you abs? No. But they tuck everything in, smooth out the bulges, and help you rock that bodycon dress. Similarly, Skims face sculpt products can give the illusion of a slimmer face, but it will be temporary. A truly sculpted jawline comes from a combination of factors: healthy collagen levels, minimal submental fat, a well-defined mandibular bone, and a prominent chin. A face shaper alone can't build all that.”

Dr Madhuri Agarwal, dermatologist and founder, Yavana Clinic

“In my opinion, the Sculpt Wrap is just a gimmick, because it’s talking about collagen yarns. There’s nothing like a collagen yarn, and again, collagen, as we all know, is a heavy molecule. Simply applying it to the skin won’t allow it to penetrate deeply enough to boost or remodel collagen. Secondly, a compression is usually used after face lift surgeries to reduce swelling, but when used on an individual who does not have any swelling, it will not make a difference. Also, since you won’t be wearing this strap in public like shapewear, the effect disappears as soon as you take it off. There’s no benefit in terms of compression. It may result in more infections, acne, breakouts, irritation and itchy skin because it will just be pressing against your skin, making it warm and irritable. In my opinion, it does not make sense in a skincare routine.”

Dr Jyoti Aneja, dermatologist and founder, La Grace Luxury Skin Clinic

“As a dermatologist, I see the Skims Face Wrap as a clever marketing spin on a compression band—great for short‑term de‑puffing, but zero impact on collagen or true contouring. There’s no clinical evidence backing these long‑term sculpting claims. It’s more hype than help, dressed up in celebrity glam. Hype and trends fade, results stay—and I choose scientifically proven treatments over just pretty packaging any day. Think of it as a push‑up bra for your face—great lift while it’s on, back to reality once it’s off.”

Dr Geetika Mittal Gupta, founder and aesthetician at ISAAC Luxe

“Yes, I saw Kim K’s new face wear. She has been into shapewear for the body, and now they’re coming up with something for the face. Apparently, it also has some collagen threads, and they’re saying it can snatch the jawline. But I feel there is no scientific study. You cannot wear collagen threads on your face or mask like that and expect collagen-boosting effects. In fact, trying to achieve results overnight can actually lead to negative effects—it could cause acne due to compression and humidity build-up. It can also lead to a lot of discomfort and disturbed sleep. I think there is no scientific data to support this. These kinds of face wear are generally suggested to patients who have undergone facial surgeries. Post-plastic surgery, they are advised to wear compression garments, which is standard practice. But on a day-to-day basis, you don’t need to wear such garments to get a snatched look. We also know the Kardashian family has been open online about the types of treatments and surgeries they undergo to maintain their skin. So, people should understand what kind of results they’re aiming for. In my opinion, these kinds of treatments are nothing but a waste of money.”

Sneh Koticha, director, Jean Claude Biguine Salons and Spa

“Face shapers have lately been catching a lot of attention from the media, from Hollywood, and from people all across the globe—and rightly so in a way, because anything that promises to give you a more defined look makes you feel better about how you look. I think this is going to catch even more attention. Let’s understand what it actually does. It applies compression on the jawline to give a more lifted appearance. However, it’s not a permanent result. Depending on the instrument, yes, it might give you results for a few hours, but your body has a way of going back to its original form—unless it’s something you do constantly, which again is not advisable. I think it works beautifully for a few hours, depending on what kind of sculpting shaper you're wearing. It’s just like a sheet mask we use before an event—it gives you a great glow, but then it fades out. I mean, that’s great—it does its job. So yeah, that’s my two bits on face shapers.”
