Everything You Need to Know About Preventing Seasonal Acne

Summer is finally here! While you’re in the process of getting that bikini bod all prepped, don’t you forget your face! You may be ready to reveal those abs and toned glutes to the world, but what’s even the point when people are unable to draw their attention away from your pimply face! Oily and patchy skin, exacerbated sebum production and those extra-stubborn zits that appear out of nowhere are just part and parcel of this sultry season.

However, to get the whole package going this summer, why not take additional care of your skin? Skincare experts Dr Jaishree Sharad, Celebrity Cosmetic Dermatologist and Dr Simal Soin, Aayna Clinic, are going to help you prep well ahead of time.

BUT FIRST, LEMME DO A CLEANSE

With all the day’s grime, dirt and pollution getting on the surface of your skin, it is advisable to wash your face twice a day without stripping it off its essential oils. However, we must remind you to avoid washing your face multiple times as it takes away the moisture from the skin, leading the sebaceous glands to produce excess oil and cause acne. Salicylic acid or Glycolic acid based cleansers are a go-to for acne prone skin.

MASK ON

A face mask, utilised roughly twice a week, isn’t meant to replace your daily face-cleansing routine; it’s only meant to enhance it. Application of a skin-type appropriate face mask will result in multiple benefits including detoxification, unclogging pores, reducing redness, enhancing glow, etc. Mud masks with an oil-control property should be opted for by those who suffer from oily skin.

GO LIGHT OR GO HOME

Unlike winters, where the cold, dry weather rips the skin of its moisture and causes your oil glands to overcompensate for the lack of hydration, the humid summers does the opposite. Humidity adds moisture to the skin, along with kicking the oil glands into overdrive, creating a natural moisture barrier that you don't need to supplement. In such weather, it is advisable to use a lightweight, oil- free moisturiser to hydrate oily skin and retain its essential oils. Experts recommend using a good gel-based moisturiser to keep your skin hydrated and lighter serums and sunscreens when one steps out in the sun.

YOU ARE WHAT YOU EAT (AND DRINK)

Did you drink your 4 litres of water today? If not, I urge you to do so RN. The simplest thing to do is to make sure that you don’t skip on drinking at least 10-12 glasses of water a day. Experts also suggest including 2-3 servings of seasonal fruits and a bunch of green in your daily diet to attain hydrated, soft and supple skin. Eating healthy will flush the unwanted toxins out of the body, providing relief from skin conditions.

They say, 'A little bit of summer is what the whole year is all about.' Well, exactly. So make sure you make this whole year pimple-free!
