Ladies, please bear in mind that lip care is as important—if not more—as skin care. Repeated exposure to external stressors such as UV rays, dry air, and chemical compounds present in cosmetic products, along with habitual lip-licking can leave the skin on your lips feeling flaky and chapped.

According to Dr Geetika Mittal, Founder of ISAAC Luxe Dermatology Clinic, "Our lips do not possess the same concentration of oil glands as compared to our skin. Thereby, it becomes increasingly important to take care of the skin on the lips." The first step in doing so is to apply a store-bought or homemade exfoliator, at least once a week. You may follow this up with a lip mask.

"Lip scrubs work to hydrate and moisturise your lips, get rid of discolouration, and remove dead skin. If you're hesitant to invest in an expensive scrub off of the shelf, you could always prepare one right at home. A select combination of kitchen ingredients can be blended to create a homemade exfoliator that yields beneficial results," says Dr Rinky Kapoor, Cosmetic Dermatologist, The Esthetic Clinics & Fortis Hospitals.

To achieve instantly kissable lips, Dr Rinky Kapoor shares a quick-fix homemade recipe using the following ingredients:

¾ tsp of Honey

1 tsp of Vanilla Extract

2 ½ tsps of Olive Oil

1 tbsp of Cocoa Powder

3 tbsps of Brown Sugar

How to Prepare

1) Mix the above mentioned ingredients in a glass bowl and blend well.

2) Apply the concoction on your lips and gently scrub in circular motions.

3) Wipe or wash away with water afterwards.

Cocoa powder and honey help correct skin discolouration and provide moisture to cracked lips. Besides, honey helps get rid of the dry, dead skin on the lips, while the antioxidants and fatty acids present in cocoa powder leave the skin looking supple and rejuvenated. Enriched with moisturising agents, olive oil offers plenty hydration and heals severely dry lips as well.

Points to Remember:

1) Make it a point to use a lip balm or petroleum jelly post application of a lip scrub.

2) Limit exfoliating to once a week to avoid micro tears.

3) Ensure that your lips are clean before you begin the process.
