“I am a dreamer. I can look into the sky and be in that moment for eternity...unlike on-screen, where we are always playing a character and rushing from one thought to another. Acting actually happened out of sheer curiosity. I was a sprinter and was preparing for the Commonwealth Youth Games. One day, while practising my routine drills, I noticed a couple of stylish, young people on the ground, carrying what looked like machine guns. They were actually casting directors, looking for real athletes to act in a big-budget sports film. It got me excited, but our coach forbade us from auditioning, as we were preparing for a really serious event. But that incident piqued my interest! The thought lingered on, although I didn’t mention it to anyone, not even my mother. That film went on to become hugely popular and I wondered what would have happened if I’d given that audition a shot. I wanted to act, but how would I get my foot in the door as an actor? I had never watched a play before and had nothing to do with the entertainment world. And so, I started visiting Prithvi Theatre; it’s a magical place! There, I found out about Pandit Satyadev Dubey. I still remember meeting him for the first time... talking to him was the scariest thing! He introduced me to Makarand Deshpande. Mak sir, as we endearingly call him, had been a cricketer before he turned to acting, and I instantly struck a chord with him...my journey as an actor began from that day on.”
