The Best-Dressed Stars at the Met Gala 2022

After months of planning, countless hours of fittings and hair and makeup, fashion’s biggest night of the year is finally upon us, all set to celebrate the second half of “In America: An Anthology of Fashion,” the Met’s exhibition on American fashion through the generations — and they’re focusing on the glitzy reality of American mega-wealth: The Gilded Age. Designers and celebrities alike revisited old-school looks to mesh with their modern tastes, serving the best of archival vintage fashion like never seen before.

From romantic frilled hems and lengthy trains to exaggerated silhouettes, elegant tailoring and dramatic ensembles galore, Met Gala 2022’s red carpet saw celebrities sweeping the gold, one glamorous look after the other. Whether it was Kim Kardashian’s iconic entrance in the Jean Louis gown Marilyn Monroe wore in 1962 to serenade President JFK on his birthday or Blake Lively’s unexpected wardrobe reveal. Scroll ahead to catch a glimpse of some of the best-dressed A-listers of the night.

Blake Lively in Atelier Versace and Ryan Reynolds in Ralph Lauren

Met Gala co-chairs and eternal 'It' couple definitely understood the assignment. Blake Lively’s dramatic Atelier Versace look featured an Art Deco bodice inspired by the Empire State Building and a tiara and skirt that nodded to the Statue of Liberty — the latter quite literally, by transforming from copper to green in the middle of the red carpet. While Ryan Reynolds kept it simple but elegant in a chocolate-brown velvet suit by Ralph Lauren.

Natasha Poonawalla in Sabyasachi and Schiaparelli Couture

Celebrating Indian craftsmanship at its finest, Natasha Poonawalla graced the Met Gala 2022 red carpet in a Schiaparelli hand-forged metal bustier paired with a custom Sabyasachi sari and trail for that grand dramatic effect we had all been waiting for. This blend of rich cultural history undoubtedly produced one of the best looks of the night.

Kim Kardashian in vintage Jean Louis and Pete Davidson in Dior

‘Kete’ just made their relationship Met Gala official, proving they're in the running for the best-dressed couple of the night. Kim clearly relishes the challenge of a tricky-to-pull-off fashion moment and she stays true to it by donning the historic Jean Louis gown, Marilyn Monroe wore in 1962 to serenade President JFK on his birthday, while Pete Davidson looked dapper in a sleek black Dior suit.

Kendall Jenner in Prada

The Met Gala is never a time to play safe and Kendall Jenner does just that. The supermodel donned a risqué black tulle Prada top paired with a voluminous black silk-satin skirt that definitely has her name written all over it. Beauty-wise, Jenner won the most dramatic brow transformation of the evening that instantly skewed her look more avant-garde-chic.

Sarah Jessica Parker in Christopher John Rogers

SJP is an all-time Met Gala MVP and her latest red carpet look is proof. The actress teams up a custom black-and-white Christopher John Rogers ball gown with a show-stopping Philip Treacy headpiece to deliver an edgy and chic interpretation of the "Gilded Glamour" dress code that’s definitely a game-changer in every way.

Gigi Hadid in Atelier Versace

Never one to shy away from a sartorial moment, Gigi Hadid once again stunned in a sultry bright red latex jumpsuit that was cinched at the waist with a body-hugging corset and layered on top with a show-stopping maroon coat that was equal parts seductive and spectacular in volume. We can gladly thank Versace for giving us this iconic red carpet moment.

Kaia Gerber in Alexander McQueen

Leave it to Kaia Gerber to kick off the evening's red carpet with a look to set the bar impossibly high—and the lengths even longer. The supermodel wore a semi-sheer Alexander McQueen number paired with a partially-pinned mane of brushed-up curls — a look that surely came straight out of a medieval oil portrait.

Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner in Louis Vuitton

Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas arrived at the Met Gala in coordinating Louis Vuitton outfits and — seemingly with a plus-one in tow. Jonas wore a white tail jacket paired with a sheer lace top, while Turner pulled off a Louis Vuitton archive in a long-sleeve black maxi dress paired with a sultry glam that stole the show.

Simone Ashley in Moschino

Fusing the modern with the bygone is easier attempted than accomplished, but Simone Ashley’s bronze bustier-meets-slip skirt look does the hard work. Pair that with some expert-styled wet waves and you’ve got yourself a show-stopping red carpet look.

Hailey Bieber in Saint Laurent

We’re not gonna lie, Hailey Bieber’s pristine white Saint Laurent ensemble is definitely a refreshing divergence amongst a flurry of gold and silver gowns. And this angelic number paired with a feather trim coat, featuring a saucy thigh-high split — truly pulls off a win.

Dakota Johnson in Gucci

Dakota Johnson gives the 2022 Met Gala red carpet her very own rock ‘n’ roll muse moment in a custom chain-bedecked black bodysuit by Gucci, paired with a striking ruby robe that perfectly complements her overall ensemble. The looks truly fifty shades of fabulous if you ask us!

Megan Thee Stallion in Moschino

We predicted that this year’s Gilded Glamour theme would lure a number of sequinned embellishments, but this yellow-gold foiled, majestic Moschino number paired with the grandeur of the feathered shoulder pads on Megan Thee Stallion is better than we could have ever hoped for.
