Not the one to shy away from speaking her mind, even if that stirs up controversies. Kangana Ranaut has been dubbed as one of the most “controversial” persons in Bollywood. Opinions are often divided on whether she calls out when she sees it or if it’s her way of ensuring the limelight stays focussed on her.
After the unfortunate death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput, Kangana went on to make a spate of statements accusing prominent filmmakers and actors in Bollywood. Here’s a look at some of her most contentious statements in the past few months.
Shortly after the news of Sushant Singh Rajput’s death shocked the nation, Kangana released a video calling out the movie mafia. She spoke out on how nepotism doesn’t allow outsiders a fair chance at making it big in the industry. In the video she accused prominent Bollywood filmmakers of 'systematic dismantling of a fragile mind'.
In an interview on national television, she said: "I only have to lose here, because tomorrow they (referring to the 'movie mafia') will get some 20 needy outsiders like Taapsee Pannu and Swara Bhaskar who will say 'oh only Kangana has a problem with Karan Johar, but we love Karan Johar.' If you love Karan Johar, why are you both B-grade actresses? You are better looking than Alia Bhatt and Ananya, you both are better actresses, why don't you get work? Your existence is a proof of nepotism. What are you telling me how happy you are with this industry?” This statement of her’s not only elicited a reaction from Taapsee and Swara but also from many other members of the industry. Anubhav Sinha tweeted: “When you talk like that you are degrading yourself”.
When the actor came out in support of Sushant’s girlfriend Rhea Chakraborty, he incurred Kangana’s wrath. She was quick to tweet: "Chaploos outsiders support mafia only for one reason and the reason is their mediocrity, nobody is threatened by them and they take full advantage of conflicts faced by few like Kangana and SSR by openly denying and mocking them." The tweet had Kangana's name's initials, i.e. K R, at the end. She alleged that he has been supporting Rhea and star kids because he wants to survive in Bollywood and enhance his image.

In a tweet she expressed her angst against Ranbir and Deepika, claiming that they were privileged enough to get away with things while outsiders like her were labelled and criticised. Her tweet read: "Ranbir Kapoor is a serial skirt chaser but no one dare call him a rapist, Deepika is a self proclaimed mental illnesses patient but no one calls her a psycho or a witch, this name calling is reserved only for extra ordinary outsiders who come from small towns and humble families.
When the Supreme Court ordered CBI to look into Sushant’s death, Kangana was quick to applaud the move. But in the same statement she also accused Deepika, who spoke about depression immediately after the news of Sushant's demise broke of using it to her advantage. Kangana tweeted: ”Repeat after me, depression ka dhandha chalane walon ko public ne unki aukat dikhadi #CBIforShushant #SushantSingRajput #1stStepToSSRJustice.”
When Narcotics Control Bureau got involved in the on-going investigations related to SSR’s death, Kangana tweeted: "If narcotics Control Bureau enters Bullywood, many A listers will be behind bars, if blood tests are conducted many shocking revelations will happen. Hope @PMOIndia under swatchh Bharat mission cleanses the gutter called Bullywood.” In tweets that followed she dared Ranveer Singh, Ranbir Kapoor, Ayan Mukerji and Vicky Kaushik to undertake drug tests to prove they weren’t into substance abuse.

She also got condemned lashed out at Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh for allegedly liking a derogatory tweet against her. She tweeted, "When @CPMumbaiPolice is openly intimidating me like this, encouraging bullying and crime against me, will I be safe in Mumbai ? Who is responsible for my safety? @PMOIndia." However, the Mumbai Police officially denied the accusations.

She tweeted: Sanjay Raut Shiv Sena leader has given me an open threat and asked me not to come back to Mumbai, after Aazadi graffitis in Mumbai streets and now open threats, why Mumbai is feeling like Pakistan occupied Kashmir?”

On Wednesday Brihanmumbai Corporation (BMC) initiated demolition of an alleged illegal structure at her production house, Manikarnika Films, in west Mumbai's Khar. The actor refuted the claims that there was any illegal construction at her office. She tweeted videos of the demolition and wrote: ’There is no illegal construction in my house, also government has banned any demolitions in Covid till September 30, Bullywood watch now this is what Fascism looks like.’ The Mumbai High Court has, however, stayed the demolition by BMC.
