It was Karan Johar’s 47th birthday a few days ago, and a bunch of his friends put up posts on Instagram wishing him a fabulous year. Amongst those sending birthday love Karan’s way was New York-based Nepalese designer Prabal Gurang, whose post and tag line have created quite a stir.
So, why is everyone in a tizzy after seeing this? It seems that’s Prabal’s tagline “Pyar Kiya To Darna Kya”, has caused a tonne of conjecture (Karan’s favourite word) amongst netizens. People have taken this as a sign that Karan and Prabal are dating, and think that Prabal’s post is a declaration of his love. Even Karan’s reply saying, “Control yourself Bhaiya!???” didn’t seem to deter the Internet. Check out some of the comments written below:
While it’s a relief that we can now talk about same-sex relationships openly, Karan and Prabal have both made it abundantly clear that they are just close friends. They seem to have known each other for a while, and have been seen hanging out with Bollywood peeps like Gauri Khan, Kareena Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra. The two were even spotted with shoe designer Christian Louboutin .
Given all the speculation, Prabal decided to release an official statement on Twitter, and this is what he had to say:
No, I am not dating @karanjohar He is my dearest friend, mentor, buddy and a big brother. Pls. Kindly read the attachement with my statement and hopefully we can lay it all to rest. Wish you all nothing but the best and love XPG pic.twitter.com/I5UQkIt2fx

Prabal's underlying message to everyone is that we need to expand the horizon and definitions of love as members of a global society, and we can’t help but agree. He sums it up with his closing thought:
“I feel that each and everyone of us needs to love whoever we want to love, however we want to love them-unabashedly, openly and proudly.”
