ICYMI: The head-turning moments from the Milan Fashion Week

From super-model fuelled runways and Italian fashion and its finest, the Milan Fashion Week served up some truly note-worthy moments. With major players in fashion such as Gucci, Versace, Prada, Missoni, Bottega Veneta and many more presenting their jaw-dropping Spring/Summer 2023 collections, it was a seven-day event that left us wanting more. Scroll down to find out which were the most unforgettable moments from the MFW!

Gucci’s twin show

If you think this is some sort of illusion, you’re wrong. Well, only partly. For a show that will go down in the history of fashion, Gucci called on 68 pairs of identical twins to strut down the runway. With its collection named ‘Gucci Twinsberg’ Creative Director, Alessandro Michele paid homage to his mother and her twin sister, both being maternal figures to him. The show began with each pair walking on either side of a wall which eventually pulled up and revealed the model’s doppelganger half walking on the other side. For the finale, the siblings came together and walked down the runway hand in hand.

Highlighting the sense of duality, this year’s theme focused on co-dependence and co-belonging. Each sartorial piece embodied an element of nature through bold and vibrant animal prints as well as accessories and face-embellishing jewellery.

This is proof that two is better than one!

Kim Kardashian curated a collection for Dolce & Gabbana

Kim Kardashian took the fashion world by storm yet again by turning muse for Dolce & Gabbana SS23 show. By digging through their archives the brands brought some of their most iconic designs back to life. They collaborated with the reality TV star to create an exclusive collection entitled ‘Ciao Kim’.

Models sashayed down the runway to the backdrop of a giant screen which projected a black and white video of Kim eating spaghetti. Amazingly quirky, isn’t it? From embellished corset dresses and all-black bodysuits to crop tops with high-waist tight trousers, the entire collection had the Kim K style stamp with a slight vintage twist.

 The darker side of Versace

Embracing all things goth, this show by Versace at Milan Fashion Week was nothing short of iconic. With a star-studded runway lineup (it featured everyone from Gigi and Bella Hadid to Irina Shayk and Emily Ratajkowski), this collection beautifully merged dark and sensual bridal looks with slashed dressed and lots of leather. We’re absolutely here for these dark yet sexy looks that Donatella Versace sent down the runway.

However, the highlight of this show was Paris Hilton closing it in a metallic pink chainmail mini dress, a pink veil and fingerless gloves. This whole ensemble looked like it came from her wardrobe in The Simple Life!

The Indian designers that presented at MFW

With Indian designers like Vaishali S and Dhruv Kapoor presenting their collections at the Milan Fashion Week this year, representation was strong. They took over the runway to present their unique sartorial styles. While the former’s collection ‘Anscentral Threads’ showed more of our traditional silhouettes, Kapoor’s kept it casual chic with his recycled oversized and striking outfits.

Moschino turned the ramp into the beach

Giving ‘extra’ a whole new meaning, Moschino’s SS23 collection truly made a splash. Models strode down the runway with floaties and inflatable pool toys wrapped around them. Playful colours, bold prints, comical collars and everything OTT are all woven into dresses and other outfits. If this is what 2023 is going to look like, we can’t wait!
