These cool homegrown brands sell classic denim pieces with a twist

Most wardrobes are divided into at least two parts—one that is brimming with cool classics and another that houses the latest trends. And if you love classics, there are a few things you got to own including a white shirt, a little black dress, and a bunch of denim pieces.

Confused about where to get your denim stash from? Here are a few cool Indian brands that give a spectacular spin to your denim classics.

Freakins

one belted denim jacket

With their entire creative team under the age of 25, you’re in good hands with styles that are a straight ticket to denim heaven. Think pants with five pockets to carry all your emotional baggage; pink mom jeans for your imaginary school run; or baggy styles with a range of rips that vary from the cautious to devil-may-care. You’ll be able to flaunt your bootay quite happily with these cuts, as they take well into account the curves you’re most proud of. There are cute baseball and bomber jackets, as well as dad shirts in pops of colour, to really zone in on the trend. And earlier this year, the founders—Sachin Shah and Shaan Shah—collaborated with 22 young artists to create a cool range that celebrates artistic expression. Quick tip: drop everything and give this brand instant attention.

Blew Brew

baggy jeans

Ripped, baggy, and in shades like pink and yellow, not just tones of the deep blue sea, Blue Brew by Mumbai-based Aditya Rathi and Anirudh Singh passes the vibe check (and how). Young, fun, and comfy, the label gets extra props for cutting across gender norms with its unisex pieces. And while the cuts are perfect for everyday wear, they’re anything but basic. Take the three-tone patchwork jeans, for instance: straight-fit, with a low-waist option for the boys, a high-waist for girls, and not one but five pockets (say farewell to forgetting small belongings behind). To zero in on the denim-on-denim look, there are T-shirts as well as denim jackets with a variety of treatments. Think normcore styling with accessories as per your style...excuse us, but strictly following trends is so last season. Do check their sizes before ordering though, because they differ from other brands. And many styles are on pre-order, but they are entirely worth the wait.

Do you know the denim outfits that make you feel like you’re a construction worker in the 1800s? That’s what sister-duo Ankita and Gayatri Bansal don’t want you to feel like. This Delhi-based brand is the OG at creating your wardrobe foundation, with dresses, overalls, skirts, and blouses in a softer jeans-fabric, making the piece far more comfortable to wear and style. We’ve got our eye on the super-fly, anti-fit jackets with metallic rings stitched into them; just right for the transitioning weather when you want to be warm but don’t mind a bit of a draft on your back. Not a popular opinion, but pair the look with a matching bag, scrunchie, scarf, or apron...because hello, YOLO!

Madish

heart bag

Petite or XL, size charts don’t deter this Mumbai-based brand that is racking up body positivity and size inclusivity goals. For Madina Dinesh Kirpalani, the Founder, the aim is clear: to make sure you’re the main character in every pair...There are classic skinnies, mom jeans, boot cut, or wide-leg styles in sizes varying from 22 to 44. Each design from the label’s new The Body Positive Collection is a high-waisted creation, in shades of blue, black, and white. There are denim bags and clutches to complete the look too, along with jackets, shorts, skirts, belts, and shoes. Keep a lookout for the mega clearance sale to save some bucks, and you can even earn cred by joining their affiliate programme and earning commission on every sale you make. Now if that isn’t a win-win, we don’t know what is.
