Cafécore is taking over weekends—here's what to wear to your matcha date

Wake up and smell the coffee means something different today. Set aside waking up to reality for a moment, and let’s just revel in those moments when we step into a café, smell freshly ground beans and baked goodies, and bask in the overall warm, cosy ambience. And honestly, as an avid coffee drinker myself, it’s less about the caffeine hit and more about the ritual around it. Somewhere between the pandemic-era romance with home coffee setups featuring foamy dalgona and the current obsession with “third spaces”, the neighbourhood café quietly became the venue of choice for first dates, catch-ups with an old friend, or an hour stolen entirely for yourself. Brunch is a thing of the past now, swapped for a slow matcha in great lighting.

And, of course, once you have a destination in mind, you’ve got to dress for the occasion. But cafécore isn’t about dressing up in the traditional sense. It’s about looking like you have somewhere unhurried to be. Think tactile fabrics, easy silhouettes, and a little polish without the performance. If you’re building your cafécore moodboard, we have a little inspiration for you.

The polka dot renaissance

Trends may come and go, but there’s just something about polka dots that never goes out of fashion. And Rareism’s Polka Reverie edit is the cafécore print for us polka-dot-loving girlies. Think a flowy polka-dot dress for the window-seat sit-down, a co-ord for the days you’re camping out at the café with your laptop, loungewear that looks intentional the second you step outside, and shirts and tops that layer easily under a jacket when the AC gets a little too aggressive. Pick a mood, and Rareism has an outfit ready to go.

French girl, Indian table

No one does fashion and coffee culture quite like France, and I don’t think that’s even worth debating. That’s why Le Concept’s made-to-measure pieces are perfect for the quieter, more tailored end of cafécore. Think soft fabrics, clean lines, and nothing screaming for attention. A crisp shirt dress or a fluid separate that was cut to fit rather than pulled off a rack, paired with a coffee cup held just so? That makes for a great aesthetic—not just for your wardrobe, but for the ‘gram, too.

The jewellery edit: subtle vs statement

There are days when minimalist jewellery adds just the right amount of depth to your soft-core ootd. And then there are days when we’ll settle for nothing less than making a bold statement. That’s two ways to accessorise a café outfit, depending on the mood.

And AuraBling Jewels goes the other way. Pair a bold statement earring or layered chain that immediately draws attention, for all the right reasons, before you even make it to the café table. AuraBling boasts anti-tarnish, lightweight pieces that are built to survive the full day, long beyond the morning matcha latte.

Heritage, slowed down

Aravalii’s Sky Veil Kurta Set, an ivory-and-sky-blue, hand-detailed piece with a coordinated dupatta and pants in a relaxed straight cut, works just as well over a flat white as it does at a daytime family function. Lightweight, breathable, and easy to sit in for that hour-long catch-up.

For something that carries on past the café, Ananya Goenka Bagaria (AGB) pieces are built to move. What that means is that the same top or dress can take you from a lunch date to dinner or a cocktail evening without a change of clothes.

Prints with a point: ANI clothing

When we say ANI Clothing, we’re talking maximalist prints in colours that carry mood, cut into Western silhouettes shaped for Indian bodies. Shop from their Fortune Fair or Love, ANI collections if bold and bright colours are what your wardrobe needs. For those looking to flair things up, the Cleopatra in New York collection does the job perfectly

Downtime dressing drawn

Drawn’s Summer ’26 Volume II has a flared mini and a sculpted shift for a quick coffee run, a sweeping maxi or smocked dress for the slower Sunday version, and a relaxed satin co-ord for whatever’s in between. Within the collection, The Artist Edit, a collaboration with Copenhagen-based artist Clara Selina Bach, features an Artist Kaftan, a Smocked Midi Dress, and a Racerback Mini Dress, each carrying a different fragment of the same hand-painted artwork. So why settle for a mediocre aesthetic when you can choose to be a walking piece of art, quite literally?

Everyday uniform, elevated

For the café stop wedged between a meeting and an appointment, 9 to Wine has the fabric-first, detail-driven pieces that don’t need a costume change either side of it. Weekday runs can be dressed with the Work to Wine collection. But normal is not what we, or you, are here for. Think a soft, flowy dress for the golden-hour cuppa joe, fluid satin dresses for quick coffee dates, and striped shirts paired with denim for relaxed Sunday outings, because sometimes you just need matcha-me-time.

On your feet: CHK’s Stride sneaker. Available in eight colourways, the silhouette is easy to wear with a dress, a co-ord, or tailored separates, giving you the kind of low-profile sneaker that disappears into any outfit rather than dressing it down.

Craft on a coffee run

Cord’s pieces are the kind you reach for without thinking twice, especially if you have an affinity for embroidery and patchwork worked into clothing. For a bright, retro-leaning café outfit, Album 91 has the fits and colours to match a sunny window seat. For something with more ceremony, The Muse Festive ’25 turns hand-painted, hand-embroidered artwork into wearable pieces, each one closer to a small costume than an outfit. Pair either with a well-worn leather bag that’ll outlast the trend cycle entirely.

Cafécore is all about picking what’s comfortable for you and then going just a tad bit crazy with it. Mix it up by pairing a Drawn dress with AuraBling gold, or a Le Concept co-ord with CHK shoes. And if that last mirror check makes you fall in love with yourself all over again, we’ll deem this cafécore checklist a massive success.
