Everything we loved from the Stella McCartney x H&M collaboration

Two decades after their first collaboration, Stella McCartney and H&M are reuniting for a new collection that feels both nostalgic and right on time. Launching on May 7, the Stella McCartney x H&M collection revisits key pieces from McCartney’s 25-year archive, reworked with a sharper, more modern lens. Think oversized shirting, sweeping trenches, sharp tailoring, and the playful, slightly rebellious spirit that defined her early work.

“I see this collection as a journey through my fashion history. It is a true mix of current classics and some of my old favourites that showcase my first forays into fashion and the development of my signatures. It’s playful, strong, sparkling, joyful, refined,” says McCartney. That mood carries through the entire collection, from grey melange suiting and relaxed trousers with clever pleat details to statement eveningwear. A long white gown with a dramatic cape-like sleeve stands out instantly, while a polka dot chiffon mini and ruched black mini dresses bring just the right amount of after-dark drama.

The collection taps into Stella McCartney’s signature mix of masculine and feminine, where sharp tailoring meets softer, more playful details. Structured blazers and drop-crotch trousers are offset by delicate lace, sheer layers, and chain accents inspired by her iconic Falabella bags. There is sparkle too, but done with intention. Beaded dresses, bodysuits, and leggings are embellished with crystals made from recycled glass, giving glamour a more conscious edge. Denim feels lighter and more playful, with low-waisted baggy fits and star-shaped cut-outs, while layering pieces mix prints, textures, and silhouettes in that effortless, throw-on way McCartney does so well.

Sustainability sits at the heart of the collection, just as it always has for McCartney. The drop uses recycled materials, organic cotton, and wool certified to the Responsible Wool Standard, alongside innovative alternatives like coatings made from industrial corn and recycled vegetable oil. As McCartney puts it, “You shouldn’t have to choose between something feeling joyful and being responsibly made. That’s the whole point—that it looks desirable, that it feels effortless, and that you don’t even realise you’re making a better choice. The discipline sits behind the scenes. The emotion is what you see.”

Accessories are just as much of a highlight. From oversized totes to sleek shoulder bags, the collection includes six bag styles in total, many finished with the signature Falabella chain in recycled metals. Sculptural heels and chain-detailed loafers bring a sharper finish, while playful add-ons like cherry-shaped keyrings and silk scarves nod to the collection’s nostalgic prints.

For H&M, this return collaboration is about more than just clothes. “Stella has always had a bold vision for fashion, and this collection tracks her journey from a young, rule-breaking voice to a master of timeless design. Every single piece in the collection is desirable and tells a unique and bold story,” says Ann-Sofie Johansson, Creative Advisor at H&M.

And that is exactly what the collection delivers: a reflection of where McCartney began, where she is now, and how conscious fashion can still feel fun, expressive, and seriously covetable.
