5 Ways to Create a Relaxing, Eco-friendly Bedroom

Amidst surging cases of Covid-19 in the second wave of the pandemic, there’s a lot of stress and anxiety that many of us have to deal with. The fear of the disease, the uncertain future and financial worries are some of the fallouts of the   pandemic that has gripped most people. In a gloomy situation where you spend all your time at your home, you would want a space that clams you, helps you relax and unwind and at the same time gets you to connect with nature. And the easy to get all this is to create an eco-friendly bedroom. So we get Shalini Chandrashekar and G.S. Mahaboob Basha, Principal Designers and Co-founders, Taliesyn - Design & Architecture to tell you how to transform those four walls into a tranquil space that will pep your mood.

1.Get the outdoors inside

This you can do by getting as many house plants as you can. Plants will purify the air and help you get rid of pollutants! And the good thing is you can get creative with the planters. Besides the ones available in the market, you can also try a few DIY planters by up cycling old bottles, crockery or other stuff lying at home. Do bear in mind that being engaged in anything creative will take your mid off the current situation.

2. Eco-friendly Furniture

Eco-friendly bedroom furniture is quite popular these days. “Incorporating upcycled furniture or furniture made with sustainable materials is a good idea as it gives you a low carbon footprint,” says Shalini. So you can look for used furniture or give a fresh lick of paint to old ones lying in the attic. Also, opt for pieces that don’t take too much space.

3. Natural Bed Linen

With such a wide choice of materials available for your bedding, you might wonder what the most eco-friendly option is. You would want organically grown materials that are free from chemical dyes. Organic cotton like Khadi is an excellent choice for the summer because it is lightweight and breathable.

4. Minimalistic Décor

When decorating your eco bedroom, make sure you consider all the materials you are bringing into it. Recycle, refurbish, or repurpose everything you can, and use these older items for décor. Don’t overbuy, and try to only bring pieces into the room with actual meaning and ones you will want to hold on to forever. Do not clutter the space.

5. Paint it cool

Every perfectly serene bedroom starts with the right shade of paint. Use neutral tones with doses of earthy hues in bedrooms as these have the power to calm you down. Avoid bold colours. Conventional paint usually contains many harmful chemicals. But many eco-friendly and VOC-free dyes are available in the market, so you shouldn’t have too much trouble sourcing some.
