Myths busted about period sex

Like most things related to sex, period sex comes with pre-conceived notions, stigmas, and myths. But we’re always here to tell you the right from wrong. Long story short, you can have period sex and enjoy it, too. Yes. you read it right. Here’s what you need to know about period sex as we bust the myths surrounding it.

Myth: There will be blood everywhere

If you’re thinking it’s going to be a bloodbath, you have been living a lie your entire life. It all depends on which day of your period you’re on and the flow that day. There’s a simple solution for this. Use a towel. Also keep a few tissues handy. If you’re worried about the timing, then we’d suggest to wait till the end of your period as there will be little to no blood.

Myth: You won’t get pregnant

ALWAYS use protection. Even during period sex. More so because, the chances of infection are high. Secondly, never assume things when it comes to sex, so please don’t be under the impression that you can’t get pregnant just because you’re on your period. The sperm lives in the body for up to five days. So, if your cycle is irregular, there are chances you could get pregnant.

Myth: Having sex will mess the timing of your period

It’ll be nothing but a coincidence.

Myth: Your cramps will be more painful

cramp

On the contrary, it’s quite the opposite. When you orgasm, the body releases ‘feel-good’ hormones called endorphins that reduce pain. So if you want to feel good and need something to elevate your mood during your period, you know what you got to do.

Myth: The desire for sex, when on one’s period, is less

Nope. The surge in testosterone during menses can cause a rise in your libido, making you desire sex even when you’re feeling pain. We say, go for it!
