‘Euphoria’ season 3: everything we know so far

Season 2 of Euphoria wrapped almost a year ago, and die-hard fans are eagerly wondering about season 3—and for obvious reasons! I mean, who wouldn’t want a never-ending supply of binge-able teen drama and neon makeup looks given to them immediately? ’Nuff said, lol. And can you blame us?! The show is so freakin’ good!

Considering how well both seasons have done, season 3 kinda feels like a no-brainer…right? Here’s what we know.

Is Euphoria getting another season?

HBO confirmed that Euphoria season 3 is, in fact, happening. Sound the alarm! Ready your Twitter account! Grab your glitter eyeshadow! If season 3 is anything as we’ve seen so far, it’s going to be one hell of a ride. With Rue’s struggles with drug addiction being a major plot point of the show, it’s safe to say that will carry over in the storylines to come.

Who from the cast is coming back for season 3?

For now, we can assume it’ll be all the usual suspects: Zendaya, Hunter Schafer, Sydney Sweeney, Jacob Elordi, Alexa Demie, and Storm Reid. Sadly, after months of rumours about Barbie Ferreira not being thrilled with her character’s arc in season 2, we officially know that she won’t be returning for the show’s next instalment. The actor announced her departure via an Instagram Story, writing the following: “After four years of getting to embody the most special and enigmatic character Kat, I’m having to say a very teary-eyed goodbye. I hope many of you could see yourself in her like I did and that she brought you joy to see her journey into the character she is today. I put all my care and love into her and I hope you guys could feel it. Love you, Katherine Hernandez.” IDK about you, but emotional is an understatement for my general feelings right about now.

Oh, and let’s talk about those Billie Eilish rumours, shall we? ICYMI, a fraudulent entertainment Twitter account pushed out a now-viral tweet back in August saying that Billie was joining the season 3 cast as Nate’s (Jacob Elordi) love interest. Welp, I hate to break it to all you hopefuls out there, but it ain’t happening—Billie said so herself in her annual Vanity Fair interview. When asked, “What’s the biggest rumour about you now?” she responded, “Oh! That I’m in the third season of Euphoria. That’s not true,” she said. “I’d like to be. Euphoria’s fucking fire.” There you have it! But we def hope HBO is taking notes because this definitely needs to happen!

What will happen in Euphoria season 3?

There’s no word yet on what the plot of Euphoria’s third season will officially focus on, but Zendaya has gone on the record advocating for a time jump to take the characters past graduation. And because, in addition to starring on the show, she’s one of Euphoria’s executive producers, we’re assuming her hopes about the overall direction of the show are taken very seriously in the writers’ room.

“I think it’ll be exciting to explore the characters out of high school,” she told the Hollywood Reporter recently when asked about what she wants to see next for her character, Rue. “I want to see what Rue looks like in her sobriety journey, how chaotic that might look…with all the characters, in the sense where they’re trying to figure out what to do with their lives when high school is over and what kind of people they want to be.”

Looks like Zendaya's "get the characters out of high school" wish might be coming true in a big way. The show's costume designer, Heidi Bivens, hinted in a recent interview that the show could be planning for a five-year time jump in season 3 (although this is not confirmed yet).

"I’m really excited to read the scripts," Bivens explained. "There is talk of it being approximately five years in the future, and that they’re not in high school anymore. Dorothy’s not in Kansas anymore. I mean, it might be a total trip. Who can say? But knowing Sam’s brain, it’s gonna be exciting, and he will challenge all of us because he won’t want to repeat himself. It’ll be something new for the audience to discover."

When is Euphoria coming back for season 3?

If you’re hoping to mark your calendar with a potential release date, you have to wait a minute ’cause pinning down a premiere is just a teensy bit hard. Season 1 came out way back in June 2019, meaning it took more than TWO YEARS for season 2 to come out (we’ve got Miss ’Rona to thank for the delay). So barring another unexpected, production-stopping world event, a third season should hopefully come out much, much sooner. Just say a little prayer to the HBO gods and hope for the best!
