We love chick flicks. Especially the ones where a gang of girls smash the patriarchy and share a bond such that they talk about everything from life and partners, to problems and much more. We’re a month away from what promises to be a witty, quirky chick flick. Yes, we’re talking about the much-awaited Thank You For Coming that’s set to release on October 6. The film has a star-studded cast: Bhumi Pednekar, Shehnaaz Gill, Dolly Singh, Kusha Kapila, and Shibani Bedi, and a special appearance by the legendary Anil Kapoor.
For the uninitiated, the pun on the word ‘coming’ in the title and the truly offbeat banners and posters, are giving the audience a sense of what they can expect; think Big Os, sex, dating, relationships, marriage, and female friendships. The film, directed by Karan Boolani and produced by Rhea Kapoor, is making all the right noise and we hope it turns out to be the voice we need.
Speaking exclusively to Cosmopolitan India, at the much-awaited trailer launch of the film, the five fantastic ladies were their candid best, discussing everything from the female orgasm to female friendships—something you will see a lot of in the movie. According to Pednekar, a girl gang is 'the only reason she can survive'. "They're my sounding board on good days and bad. I feel they're my oxygen and without them, I will certainly crumble. I can deal with a break-up, but I can't deal with a break-up with a female friend." Gill, too, agrees female friendships are important and reasons, "Women have high EQ, and that helps them connect with people. They're way stronger than you think and when together, they have it in them to change the world."
They then go on to speak about the second most important thing: orgasm. In a relationship, if a partner ensures that both individuals orgasm, they are a happy couple. There's a lot that men get wrong and Singh points it out, "They think we don't have needs at all. It never occurs to them that we, too crave sexual pleasure. They need to educate themselves." Speaking about how one makes sure men sit up and listen, Bedi says, "I think communication is key. Men need to ask and listen to what we're saying." Singh, too, was quite vocal, "Men think, if they are done, their partner, too is. If you can communicate to them about your wants and needs, it'll help in a big way." Kapila, on the other hand, had a pretty simple and straightforward advice for men about female orgasm, "We like it as much as you do. So, take your time, ask us, and let both of us enjoy."
After the first looks of the movie that were released a few weeks ago and a poster with Pednekar lying on a bed, looking as satisfied as she is surprised released yesterday, they released the trailer today. It's safe to say, we’re set to get a much-needed masterclass in how to understand, respect, and satisfy women.
As far as the plot of the film goes, it’s about five best friends who meet at a family gathering and navigate the hilarious and heartwarming consequences of their lie, discover the true depths of their friendship, and know love more closely. The movie will also be screened alongside Shah Rukh Khan’s highly-anticipated film, Jawan in theatres, making it a double treat for moviegoers.
The film is also all set to have its Gala World Premiere at the prestigious Toronto International Film Festival 2023. Bhumi Pednekar shared her excitement on Instagram, expressing her gratitude and thrill for the gala premiere. She wrote, “This one’s for all the girls out there! Our chick flick #ThankYouForComing is going to the prestigious Toronto International Film Festival 2023 as an official selection!!! Honored! Thrilled! Gobsmacked! See you at our gala premiere! #ThankYouForComingAtTIFF.”
