10 Spices for a Flatter Stomach

You usually raid the kitchen to beat your hunger pangs – eating your heart away and filling your stomach till it can’t take any more food. You have overeaten to satiate your tongue and not just your hunger and now you feel too lazy to move. The overeating and lack of physical activity can cause bloating, making your stomach look bigger. While hitting the gym is the first thing that comes to your mind, you can find the solution to a flatter stomach right in your kitchen. Nutritionist Ambika Tyagi, of ‘Healthy Souls’ and Harshita Dilawri of ‘Know Your Nutrients’ list the 10 spices that can help you get a flatter stomach.

  1. Peppercorn - Peppercorn comes in different varieties, one of which is black pepper. Peppercorn is rich in piperine that aids in burning unwanted fat from the body.
  2. Mustard Seed- Mustard seed contains the compound called homobrassinolide. This compound speeds up metabolism, disintegrates fat cells and reduces craving.
  3. Chilli Powder- Chilli powder contains capsaicin. Capsaicin makes chillies spicy and has been proven to be excellent for weight loss. It improves metabolism and burns fat instantly.
  4. Parsley-Parsley is basically used in continental foods for seasoning or sometimes to garnish, however, it is more than that. This emerald green herb is popular among celebrities who want to drop extra water weight before big events because it helps to reduce water retention and bloating (edema). It’s a natural diuretic, which helps to eliminate excess fluid without depleting the body of potassium.
  5. Rosemary- Rosemary is rich in carnosic acid, which makes it ideal for weight loss. It is perfect for reducing glucose in the body.
  6. Turmeric- Turmeric is known as the golden herb. It is a powerhouse of antioxidants and is anti-inflammatory, which makes it excellent for digestion. It helps the body to release leptin hormone, which helps in burning fat.
  7. Cinnamon- Cinnamon fills cells with glucose, reduces insulin and helps in disintegrating fat.
  8. Ginger-Ginger contains oils that keep our intestines running smoothly, which makes it ideal for the stomach and the digestive system.
  9. Fenugreek-Fenugreek belongs to the legume family. It may help control appetite and reduce food intake to support weight loss, which results in a lower number of calories consumed over the course of the day.
  10. Oregano- Oregano comes from the family of mint, basil, rosemary and sage. It contains carvacrol, which is a powerful compound for weight loss. Carvacrol directly impacts specific genes and proteins that control fat synthesis in the body.
