Celebrity Stylists Tell You How to Dress to Impress on a First Date

While social distancing scares are real, as weeks of life in isolation tick by, we're discovering novel ways to stay connected in this unforeseen, uncharted reality. Amidst the chaotic scenario, a plethora of digital platforms have come to the rescue, allowing us to sustain as well as develop novel relationships, and steer effective communication.

And, in the pursuit of finding a potential love interest—with virtual dating and remote romance fast-becoming the norm—singletons have jumped on the 'online dating' bandwagon. Even though the medium of communication solely allows you to be visible waist-up, putting together a stylish, statement ensemble does nothing but pave the way for a confident, sexy you! (why not spritz on some sensuous perfume in the process?)

Celebrity stylists and co-founders of Who Wore What When, Shounak and Pranay share super-fashionable date outfit ideas to make a lasting first impression.

1) Statement Sleeves

Virtual dating compels you to focus on the upper-half of your body—since most of your lower-body will not be visible on screen. Thereby, opt for a top with striking puffed sleeves, one that fits your body like a glove, has a statement neckline, and enhances your torso as well. You could go ahead and pair the top with your favourite denims, and slip into comfortable block heels. Bring the look together with understated jewellery!

2) One-Shoulder Tops

It's time to pull out your one-shoulder top from the back of your closet. This silhouette screams drama and can make for an interesting conversation-starter! Pair your one-shoulder top with breezy and comfortable linen pants of your choice—they lack the stiff structure of regular pants, but serve to be a versatile garment that work well with fancy as well as casual clothing.

3) Slip Dresses

A timeless romantic look, there's nothing quite like slipping into a satin midi dress, perfectly paired with strappy heels. Dress it up with statement jewellery—think chunky bracelets and dainty pieces, and clip back your hair or pull it back in a headscarf, to accentuate your neckline.

4) An Old School Classic

A go-to evergreen look, one can never really mess up a crisp white tee with a pair of well-fitted jeans. If you find yourself struggling to narrow it down to a few stand-out pieces and can't possibly decide what to wear on date-night, throw on your favourite white shirt and accessorise it with a stack of neck pieces and layered rings, to add an edge.

5) Avoid Bold Prints

Since you're on a virtual date, apart from concentrating on what you think will work in general, shift focus to what you believe the camera will capture well—and, large, bold prints don't seem to make it to the list. Keeping in mind lighting, opt for minimal prints or stick to solids that enhance your skin tone and come through the screen.
