Mukesh Ambani proposing to his wife Nita Ambani was nothing short of a scene from a Bollywood movie

In the last few days, the Ambani-Merchant pre-wedding festivities have kept us on the edge of our seats with pictures and reels flooding our social media feeds. From Radhika Merchant's iconic Versace gown to Rihanna setting the stage on fire, and of course power-packed performances by some of our favourite Bollywood stars, we cannot stop gushing over the excitement of the celebrations (can you blame us?).

Amdi it, the one thing we've seen and heard of the most is just how much in love Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant are—their love story could easily be turned into a Bollywood movie.  And this theme of having Bollywood-like love stories is something that runs in the family. We're talking Mukesh and Nita Ambani. While the billionaire prefers to stay out of the limelight, they did appear on a talk show—Rendezvous with Simi Garewal, about a decade ago, where they discussed their relationship.

To give you some context, Mukesh and Nita Ambani were introduced by the former's father, Dhirubhai Ambani and got married in 1985. During the conversation with Garewal, Mukesh Ambani revealed that after dating for several weeks, he knew he found his life partner in Nita and decided to propose to her right there. But it wasn’t an extravagant Ambani-style proposal like you’d expect. This isn’t to say it wasn’t romantic and dramatic in its own way.

The businessman caused a traffic jam on Peddar Road where he popped the question while driving with Nita. The chaos and blaring horns did not affect him as he said, “Nita, will you marry me? Say yes or no now.” The proposal came as a surprise (and shock) to Nita and she said no—not once but twice—and it was only on his third attempt that she finally said yes. And of course, the rest is history. The couple have three children—Akash, Anant, and Isha. Their journey together is nothing short of extraordinary. This Bollywood movie-like snippet is one of the most important moments in their lives and proves that fairytales do happen in real life.
