The destination you should visit based on your favourite rom-com movie

As we find ourselves in the thick of the festive and holiday season, most of us are already planning our winter getaways. After all, what’s a better way to end the year than going on a memorable vacation? And if you’re looking for places to visit, your favourite Bollywood rom-coms are here to save the day as most of them have picturesque destinations in India and around the world as the backdrop to their storylines, giving you ample inspiration for your next trip.

Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani—Manali

This iconic rom-com packs many locations in its run time—cities like Udaipur, Jaipur, Shimla and even Paris find a mention. But it’s Manali, with its green valleys, snow-capped peaks in Rohtang Pass, and temples that stood out as the star. And it only helps that the friend group going on a vacation there is one of the major plot points of the movie. So, if you’re a die-hard YJHD fan, pack your bags and head to the popular hill station. There’s plenty to do while there, be it hiking, camping, or simply taking in the sights of the bustling mountain city.

Dil Chahta Hai—Goa

Remember that iconic scene from Dil Chahta Hai where the trio of Aamir Khan, Saif Ali Khan, and Akshaya Khanna go to watch the view from Chapora Fort? If the heart-warming movie is one of your favourites, then it’s time you paid a visit to the Sunshine State and re-enacted the scene from the film. Apart from visiting Chapora Fort, there are quite a lot of exciting things to do as well—go sunset kayaking in South Goa, hit the Assagao neighbourhood for a meal at one of its many bars and restaurants, and go to the art and history museums for a glimpse into Goa’s history.

Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara—Barcelona

Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara (ZNMD) fuelled the wanderlust of many in India with its swoon-worthy portrayal of destinations in Spain, be it Barcelona, Sevilla, Bunol, Andalucia or Pamplona. But if you love cities and want to have the ZNMD experience without the extreme sports (no running with the bulls for us, thank you), then Barcelona is a great place to start. Cross off attractions like Casa Batllo, Arc DeTriomphe, and Gothic Quarters off your bucket list, and don’t forget to sample the city’s delicious culinary treats like tapas, which are small bar snacks. Think deep-fried potato and meat croquettes, fresh seafood, and more. Yum!

Kal Ho Na Ho—New York

While the classic rom-com starring Shah Rukh Khan, Saif Ali Khan, and Preity Zinta is set in the neighbourhood of Brooklyn, there’s so much more to explore in New York, and we aren’t talking about just the landmarks like Statue of Liberty, Empire State Building or the Times Square. Get a taste of the city’s popular breakfast staples like bagels and deli sandwiches, roam around Chinatown for a glimpse into the American-Chinese community, and go for a jog in Central Park to truly feel like a local!

Dil Dhadakne Do—Istanbul

The 2015 movie gave us major vacation envy with its luxury cruise setting and glimpses of stunning locales throughout. Turkey is one of the main destinations in Dil Dhadakne Do, so if you love this film, you’ll love the country equally! From Turkish hammams where you can unwind, panoraomic views of the city from the top of the Galata tower or the birds-eye view of the valleys from a hot air balloon in Cappadocia, you’ll be spoilt for choice during your visit here. Don’t miss the architectural marvel that is Hagia Sofia, and definitely try Turkish specialties like kebabs, grilled meats, and coffee.
