The first complete trailer for Elle has finally landed, and if you grew up watching Legally Blonde, this is the perfect dose of nostalgia. More than two decades after Reese Witherspoon introduced the world to Elle Woods, the upcoming Prime Video series takes us back to where it all began, long before Harvard Law School, courtroom victories, and the iconic bend and snap.
Set in the mid ‘90s, Elle follows a teenage Elle Woods as she navigates high school life and all the chaos that comes with it. Newcomer Lexi Minetree takes on the role of the younger Elle, and the trailer immediately captures the charm, confidence, and bright optimism that made the character such a fan favourite in the first place. From colour-coordinated outfits to quick-witted one-liners, the spirit of Elle Woods is very much alive.
This time around, however, the story is focused on a side of Elle we have never really seen before. Rather than following her as an ambitious college student, the series explores her formative years and the experiences that shaped her into the woman audiences would later meet in Legally Blonde. According to the trailer, Elle's comfortable California life is disrupted when her family relocates to Seattle, forcing her to leave behind everything familiar and start over in a completely new environment. As she adjusts to a different school, new friendships, and unexpected challenges, viewers get a glimpse of the resilience and determination that would eventually become her trademark.
The trailer also leans heavily into the visual style fans associate with the franchise. There is plenty of pink, plenty of fashion, and plenty of moments that feel like loving nods to the original film. Longtime fans will likely notice references sprinkled throughout, including familiar music cues and even an appearance from Bruiser. The result feels nostalgic without simply repeating what has already been done.
Another reason that the show deserves attention is Reese Witherspoon's involvement behind the scenes. The actress serves as an executive producer on the series and has been vocal about her excitement for the project. Her support has helped reassure fans that Elle understands what made the original story resonate with audiences in the first place.
At a time when Hollywood is filled with reboots and revivals, Elle seems to be taking a slightly different approach. Instead of retelling a story audiences already know, it is filling in the blanks and giving one of pop culture's most iconic characters a deeper origin story. Based on the trailer, the series looks fun, heartfelt, and packed with the kind of feel-good energy that made people fall in love with Elle Woods all those years ago. If the trailer is anything to go by, this could be one prequel worth adding to your watchlist.
The first season of Elle is set to premiere on Prime Video on July 1, 2026.
