The Internet Is Really Buzzing About This Photo of Mark Zuckerberg

There's no question Mark Zuckerberg, the brains behind Facebook, is used to being thrown into the spotlight. But still, we're willing to bet that even he didn't anticipate that his seemingly innocent post would become the talk of the Internet this week.

As you can see, the viral picture, which has amassed over 447,000 likes and 8,000 shares, features a smiling Zuckerberg holding an Instagram cutout and explaining the great success the platform has seen over the past two years in his caption.

Harmless, right? Think again. Take a closer look at the laptop sitting behind him.

Some eagle eyes out there in the web world were quick to spot that Zuckerberg has a piece of tape covering his microphone jack and laptop camera. Like this Twitter user, for example:

While some reacted to this discovery by poking fun at the irony of Zuckerberg's paranoia — given the fact that Facebook has been accused of listening in on private conversations and having countless security flaws — others were quick to defend the CEO, rightfully pointing out that using tape is definitely a smart move. After all, those stories of web cams being hijacked by strangers seem to be more frequent these days.

"Mark [Zuckerberg] is a prime target, so it can't hurt," says Rachel Rothman, Chief Technologist of Good Housekeeping. "Tape is a no-frills, easy solution and is also inexpensive."

In short, there are many other easy security measures you can take to reduce the chances of your smart phones, tablets, and computers being hacked, such as updating your software and making sure you have a difficult password on your WiFi. But if you're feeling particularly worried these days (or, understandably, after reading this post), it's a good idea to rip off that piece of tape. Hey, if it's good enough for Mark, it's good enough for us.
