Do you know what your hair brush says about you?

From how you clean it to where you keep it, your hair brush says more about you than you realise.

A hairbrush is one of those everyday beauty tools most of us use without a second thought. It sits on your dressing table, slips into your handbag, or gets tossed into your gym kit. But look a little closer, and you’ll realise it’s doing more than just detangling your strands; it’s quietly reflecting your habits, your routine, and even a bit of your personality.

According to Purvi Thakkar, VP, Sales, representing Denman India, people often develop a surprisingly personal relationship with their brushes. “The one you reach for every day usually reflects not just your hair type, but also how you approach styling and self-care,” says Thakkar.

The cleanliness check

Take a quick glance at your brush. Is it freshly cleaned, or holding on to a week’s worth of loose strands? “A brush that’s regularly cleared of loose strands and buildup usually belongs to someone who takes a little extra care with their tools,” says Thakkar. It’s a small detail, but one that often signals a more mindful grooming routine.

Of course, life happens. Between rushed mornings and packed schedules, cleaning your brush isn’t always a priority. “Brushes naturally collect oils, product residue, and dust, so giving them a quick clean every now and then can make a noticeable difference to both hygiene and performance,” says Thakkar.

It’s (mostly) about your hair type

Your brush choice is rarely random; it’s shaped by your hair texture and styling preferences. “People with thicker or textured hair usually look for brushes that can detangle gently without causing breakage, while those with finer or straighter hair often prefer brushes that help smooth and add shine,” says Thakkar.

Some people are loyal to one trusty brush that does it all. Others prefer a mini arsenal: a detangling brush for post-shower knots, a round brush for blow-drying, or a compact option for on-the-go touch-ups. “It’s less about having many brushes and more about finding the ones that suit your routine,” says Thakkar.

What it says about your personality

Your hair tools can double as personality markers. “Someone who keeps their brushes neatly organised and in good condition often enjoys a bit of structure in their routine,” says Thakkar. “Their grooming habits tend to be consistent and intentional.”

On the flip side, those who experiment with different brushes and styling tools tend to be more adventurous. “They’re open to trying new looks and switching up their style depending on the occasion,” says Thakkar.

Even aesthetics plays a role. “Many people today look for products that are not only functional but also aesthetically pleasing,” says Thakkar. Collections like Denman’s Floral Fantasies range reflect this shift, blending performance with playful, expressive design.

A peek into your lifestyle

Where your brush lives says just as much as how you use it. “If there’s always one tucked into a handbag, chances are that person is used to quick touch-ups throughout the day,” says Thakkar. It’s a practical habit for those constantly on the move. Meanwhile, brushes that stay put on a vanity often belong to those who prefer a more intentional, getting-ready ritual before stepping out.

At first glance, a hairbrush might seem like the simplest part of your beauty routine. But in reality, it’s a quiet storyteller. Whether you keep it spotless, carry it everywhere, or rely on one tried-and-true favourite, those small, everyday choices reveal more than you think—about your hair, your habits, and your personal style.
