Enrique Iglesias needs no introduction—but we’ll give him one anyway. The Grammy-winning legend, chart-topping hitmaker, and certified global heartthrob has given us some of the most iconic love songs and dance-floor anthems of all time. From 'Hero' to 'Bailando', his music has soundtracked heartbreaks, first kisses, road trips, and everything in between. And now, the global pop sensation is finally back in India after 13 years, ready to light up the stage on October 29 and 30.
Ahead of his big return, Iglesias spoke to Cosmopolitan India about his love for the Indian audience, how he keeps his sound fresh after decades at the top, and the one thing that always guides his music—staying true to the song.
Cosmopolitan India: Your music has transcended languages and cultures, connecting deeply with fans across the world. How do you approach creating songs that resonate so universally, while still staying true to your roots as a Spanish artist?
Enrique Iglesias: Whatever happens in the studio or in a writing room, honestly, just comes naturally.
CI: Over the years, your sound has evolved from romantic ballads to dance anthems and collaborations across genres. How do you decide when it’s time to experiment and push your music in a new direction?
EI: It always comes down to the song. Whether starting with the simplest idea, maybe some words, or even just a melody...and it just kind of grows naturally from there.
CI: India is known for its rich musical heritage and passionate audiences. What excites you the most about performing here, and have you found any inspiration from Indian culture or music during your visits?
EI: Last time I came (here) was in 2012, and I distinctly remember the amazing energy from the crowd. I could tell the moment I went on stage each night that it was going to be great. There is such a deep universal admiration for music and dance in India, and I love that.
CI: The music landscape is constantly shifting with technology—from streaming algorithms to viral trends. How do you navigate maintaining your artistic vision and emotional truth when the industry sometimes feels driven by data and instant popularity?
EI: You just have to try your best. Regardless of current trends and algorithms...it all comes down to the song.
CI: If you could steal one song from another artist’s catalogue and claim it as your own just for fun, which one would it be and why?
EI: There are a bunch from U2's catalogue that I would love to call my own.
CI: Between touring, recording, and travelling—when you do get downtime, what’s the most non-rockstar thing you like to do?
EI: I love watching movies when I can, and just playing every day and raising my children.
CI: We know you’ve collaborated with big names—but if you could record a song with an unexpected artist from any genre (even Bollywood or classical), who would be on your dream list?
EI: The list is too long....it's almost infinite.
