Why everyone in China suddenly has Kris Jenner as their profile picture?

Chinese Gen Z is “praying” to Kris Jenner for jobs, money and some main character energy

If your manifestation routine currently includes Pinterest boards, journaling and whispering “I deserve abundance” into the universe, you might want to take notes. Because somewhere on the internet, specifically in China, people have upgraded the system. The new method involves changing your profile picture to Kris Jenner and simply waiting for the universe to deliver.

No, this is not some April Fool's prank. Over the past week, Chinese social media platforms have been flooded with Kris Jenner edits, wallpapers, and profile pictures, all part of a viral trend in which users are “manifesting” wealth, jobs, exam success, and general hot, rich energy. There are hundreds of posts on Chinese social media showing Jenner surrounded by cash, luxury items and even job offer letters. Think high fashion, slightly intimidating fairy godmother of capitalism.

Why Kris Jenner of all people?

Well, Jenner does not represent just reality-TV fame but also exudes peak “worked smarter, not harder” energy. She built an entire business empire out of her family, turning the Kardashian-Jenner clan into spin-offs of Keeping Up with the Kardashians. She manages her children’s brands like a corporate mastermind and has created multiple billion-dollar juggernauts out of them.

For Chinese Gen Z, who place a high cultural value on discipline and success, Jenner reads less like a reality star and more like a business case study. She is seen as the ultimate architect of wealth, which is why users have started jokingly treating her like a symbol of prosperity and ambition.

Manifestation, but make it Gen Z chaos

The trend is equal parts sincere and unserious. People are editing Jenner into absurd scenarios like graduating from college, eating ramen, working in corporate jobs, or handing out offer letters, all while acting like she is personally responsible for their future success.

Some users literally “pray” to her. Others set her as their wallpaper across every device. Students are using her to manifest passing exams. Job seekers are using her to manifest employment. Someone probably must have prayed to her to manifest a bag full of cash, for all we know!

It is a delusion, but harmless and fun.

When Draco Malfoy was a lucky charm

If this feels familiar, that is because Chinese internet culture has been doing this for quite a while now. A few months ago, Draco Malfoy, played by Tom Felton in the Harry Potter movies, went viral as an unexpected symbol of good fortune during Lunar New Year.

The reason? His name, when transliterated into Mandarin, sounded vaguely like words associated with luck and wealth. Thus, his face ended up everywhere, from malls to social media feeds, as people leaned into the chaotic symbolism.

At its core, this trend is not just about Kris Jenner. It is about how Gen Z deals with ambition and anxiety. Manifestation has always been about control, trying to believe you can influence your future. And honestly, it makes sense. If you are going to manifest wealth, why not go straight to someone who literally monetised everything, including her own family?

So if you see people suddenly switching their profile pictures to Kris Jenner, you now know what that means. They are not joining a fandom. They are just trying to secure a job, a fat paycheck, and maybe a little main character energy.

And if it works, well... you might want to update your own profile picture as well!
