Here's How you Can Undo the Effects of Sleeping in Your Make-Up

Dry/Normal Skin type

AM-AFTER SKIN ISSUE
Ingredients in make-up can be drying, causing flakes, dullness, and sensitivity, says Annet King, director of global education for Dermalogica.

COMPLEXION-PERFECTION PLAN
Step 1 Double Cleanse
Start with an oil-based make-up remover, which latches onto old make-up best, gives you a clean slate and prevents moisture loss. A creamy scrub gets the rest of the grime.
Step 2 Give Eyes Some TLC
“The eye area lacks oil glands. Skipping your nighttime routine dries out the skin, emphasising fine lines,” says King. The fix: an eye-specific hydrating mask (the one at right also de puffs).
Step 3 Mix Moisturisers
Add a few drops of a super-charged hydration booster to a dime-size dollop of rich cream to soothe and offer double the hydration.

Combination/Oily Skin type

AM-AFTER SKIN ISSUE
No shocker here: sleeping in make-up sets the scene for breakouts and congested pores, says King. Time for a multi-pronged oil-control routine.

COMPLEXION-PERFECTION PLAN
Step 1 Make Acids Your Friend
Remove your eye make-up, then wash with a salicylic-acid or glycolic-acid cleanser to get rid of surface oil and grime. Grab a Power Tool Exfoliation prevents clogs and zits. A motorized microdermabrasion kit uses tiny crystals and a oving head to buff dead cells.
Step 2 Go Deeper
Degunk pores with a purifying clay mask—it’s less drying than mud, and draws out impurities.
Step 3 Hydrate Smartly
A salicylic acid-spiked moisturiser lightly hydrates while gently clearing pores.
