However, while you may feel compelled to jump on the K-beauty bandwagon—or follow viral TikTok skincare trends—you must take a moment to find the best sheet mask for your skin type and texture.
Celebrity dermatologist, Dr Jaishree Sharad lends a helping hand to guide you to through the picking process.
What is a sheet mask?
Sheet masks are a one-time-use skincare solution that are made to fit your face, with cut-out spaces for the eyes, nose, and mouth area. The sheet fabric is soaked in a nutrition-packed serum that contains a range of natural elements, from fruit extracts to plant-based ingredients. While it may be unknown to many, there are a variety of sheet masks available in the market, each of which is best suited for a different skin type.
How to pick the right sheet mask for your skin?
Picking the ideal sheet mask for your skin depends on your skin type, texture, and skin concerns—do you have oily skin, dry skin, acne-prone skin or clogged pores? The average price of a sheet mask can range from ₹ 150 to ₹ 1,500.
Oily Skin: If you possess an oily skin type, opt for a clay (or mud) sheet mask. Charcoal sheet masks which contain activated charcoal for detoxification of the skin, also work well for the oily skin type.
Dry Skin: On the other hand, if you experience dryness, apply a creamy sheet mask on your skin; one that provides your skin with a boost of hydration.
Acne-prone Skin: Peel-off sheet masks work best for an acne-prone skin type. If you also suffer from blackheads, opt for a blackhead peel-off mask that provides your skin with mild exfoliation, and refines your pores.
Dehydrated or Sensitive Skin: Gel-based sheet masks will offer a soothing, calming sensation to your skin.
How does one use a sheet mask?
Before you apply the sheet mask to your face, ensure that you have cleansed your skin to get rid of the day's dirt, grime, and impurities. Desired results are achieved when the mask is applied to a fresh, clean face. Next, tear open the packaged sheet mask and place it on your face, making sure to get rid of any air bubbles. Avoid the components of the mask from entering your eyes, lips, or nose (hence the open flaps or holes in these areas). Keep the mask on for approximately 15 to 20 minutes, after which massage the excess serum into your skin. Dispose the used mask.
