Karan Johar Apologises For the Hardik Pandya And KL Rahul Controversy

As we all know, cricketers Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul have been paying the price of the sexist remarks made on a recent episode of Koffee with Karan. From being crucified by the Twitterati to being suspended for the ODI series against Australia, the back lash of their sexist statements was huge. The episode has since been taken off air.

Show host Karan Johar, who had held his silence until now, opened up about the events in a recent interview. This is what he had to say:

"I have to say that I haven't spoken about it till now but I have to say that I feel very responsible because it was my show, it was my platform. I invited them as guests, ramifications, and repercussions of the show are my responsibility. I have had so many sleepless nights about how can I undo this damage and who is going to listen to me." He added further, "I have to say, don't defend myself, but the questions that I asked those two boys (Hardik and KL Rahul) are the same questions that I ask everyone including women. I have asked Deepika and Alia the same questions. I have no control over the answers that come my way. Post the show, I have a control room that has about 16-17 girls, my Koffee With Karan show is being run entirely by women. None of them came to me and said anything. Some thought he was wild, he was crazy, mad, and some said he was funny. But nobody came up to me and said it was inappropriate."

Karan then stated that he never bothers about TRPs and he feels that the boys have paid the price of their comments, "I regret what has happened to them. And then there was talk about me enjoying the TRP, I don't care about the TRPs this is a spin off of my career, it is not my career but its theirs. 'Stop making sense' is the mantra of my show but I am not justifying the conversation that happened on that episode. I am just saying that I think perhaps things were said that may have crossed boundaries and I apologise because it happened on my platform. I feel the boys have faced the price for their comments."

Incase you need a quick recap, Hardik Pandya made an appearance on the show with K.L. Rahul. In the show, Pandya talked loosely about women and his sexual activities. He also shared how he likes to check women's moves at a club. Pandya also boasted about his 'scene' with women. Post the episode, Twitter was flooded with comments against the cricketer's misogynist remarks and outrageous behaviour. Hardik then went on to post the following apology.

It seems like everyone involved is paying the price of these callous remarks, doesn't it? Good to know that any form of sexism will not be taken lightly in 2019.
