"I Lost 30 Kgs to Do Dabangg And Still People are Talking": Sonakshi Sinha

For actors, celebrities, and people in the public eye, maintaining their physical appearance seems to be part and parcel of their job. With the advent of camera phones and the paparazzi culture, their every move is constantly under public scrutiny. Of course, being fit and healthy is extremely important for anyone, but it should be a matter of personal choice. With an increasing number of actors getting trolled on social media for their looks, clothes and weight, it's no wonder that some, like Sonakshi Sinha, have had enough, and have decided to speak up about it.In a recent interview, the Kalank actor spoke out about the kind of comments she gets and how she feels about reading such things. This is what she had to say:

“When I did Dabangg, you had seen me before that also and I was very, very big, I was unhealthy. I was unfit and I lost 30 kgs to do your film and still people found words to say about me, about my shape, about how I looked. Earlier, I used to go in the defensive space. I had put in so much effort, I have reduced so much, they have not seen the half of it. They have not seen the effort that has gone in, they have not seen the blood, sweat, and tears that have gone in. And, still they are talking so, to hell with it, main jaisi hun vaisi rahungi, aapko dekhna hai aap dekho aap ko mat dekhna hai aap mat dekho.”

This is not the first time that that Sonakshi has spoken up openly about body shaming. The actor had also revealed that she was once called a 'cow' while walking the ramp at a fashion show, and said that there are still comments on how "she could lose some more weight", "work on those arms" or "do something about her forehead" Her response to this as always, was absolutely cool and collected:

"I block negative energy, I don’t assign importance to irrelevant opinions. I was bullied in school for being an overweight teenager, but I remained proud of who I was. When I entered the industry, I came down to 60 kilos from 90 because it’s a visual medium and looks do matter. Regardless of my weight, my debut film Dabangg was a huge hit. So, who is anyone to tell me how I should be?"

This is not the first time celebs have been struggling with weight gain. In the past, Aishwarya Rai had also faced similar trolling post the birth of her daughter, while struggling to lose her post pregnancy weight. We applaud Sonakshi for speaking out about such a sensitive issue, and for being a role model for many people out there who are struggling with body positivity issues. We think it's high time the world moved away from such dated stereotypes about beauty, don't you?
