Emma Watson's Brilliant New Phrase for Being Single

Emma Watson, actress and activist, has recently spoken out about her current relationship status – which if you were wondering, is happily single. Sorry, or should we say, in Emma's own words "self-partnered". Now there's a term we can get behind. She also discussed how she feels about turning 30 in April next year.

During an interview, Emma, who is starring in a new adaption of Little Women as Meg March, said of her upcoming milestone birthday: “I was like, ‘Why does everyone make such a big fuss about turning 30? This is not a big deal…', then cut to 29, and I’m like, ‘Oh my God, I feel so stressed and anxious'." Relatable for many tbh.

Emma also said in an interview that she's no stranger to society's subliminal messaging, which puts added pressure on women to have their lives looking a 'certain way' (e.g. marriage, babies, car, house, dog), by a certain age.

"If you've not built a home, if you don't have a husband, if you don't have a baby, and you are turning 30, and you’re not in some incredibly secure, stable place in your career, or you’re still figuring things out… There’s just this incredible amount of anxiety.”

Her candidness continued too, when discussing the relationship aspect of those weighty expectations. “I never believed the whole ‘I’m happy single’ spiel,” she continued. “I was like, ‘This is totally spiel.’ It took me a long time, but I’m very happy [being single]. I call it being self-partnered.”

Three cheers to Emma for speaking so honestly on a subject that a lot of women can relate to.
