Every year celebrities dress to impress for the Met Gala. So much time, effort (and most importantly money) goes into their outfits, it's easy to understand why it means so much to them.
Cast your mind back to the 2013 Met Gala. Any stand out outfits come to mind? If, like us you're a sucker for a good meme, there's no doubt you witnessed the many made of Kim Kardashian.
Yep, we're talking about that outfit. At the time, Kim was heavily pregnant with North and arrived dressed in a floral gown.
In video for Vogue, Kim revisited some of her best and worst looks, before opening up about the Givenchy floral ensemble.
“I was very pregnant, very puffy and bloated and I was like, ‘Oh god, of course the first time I go I’m gonna be huge,” she said.
“Kanye was performing so I wasn’t actually invited, I was just Kanye’s plus one. And that was okay with me because I never really dreamed I would be at the Met Ball. I know no one really probably wanted me there at the time.”
“We chose a really stretchy fabric because I would be growing and we wanted to make sure that alterations were easy and it was comfortable,” she said.
“I was like, ‘I think I should just do the black version,’ and Riccardo was like, ‘No, come on, we have to do the floral.’”
Later on, Riccardo explained his decision for choosing floral over the black version. “Riccardo said afterwards, ‘What do you give a woman who is pregnant? You send her flowers,’ ” Kim recalled.
Despite going with Riccardo's suggestion, Kim remembers feeling very insecure...
“I could never really speak up at that point because I so shy and just wanted to make everybody happy."
Following her appearance in the gown, lots of memes started surfacing making fun of Kim's dress and comparing her dress to a sofa.
“I think Robin Williams even tweeted it, said I looked like Mrs. Doubtfire,” she said. “I was crying the whole way home because I just couldn’t believe it.”
Despite the online trolls, Kim said that Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen told her how much they loved the dress. Phew.
“I just remember the Olsen twins came up to me and loved my outfit and my gloves, so none of the critics mattered because the Olsen twins approved. ”
So yeah, as funny as memes can be, it's important to remember that celebs have feelings, too.
