Aditi Rao Hydari Shares Her Secrets to Flawless, Healthy Skin

Cosmo: What is your skincare philosophy?
Aditi Rao Hydari:
“Let me start by saying that I am a dermatologist’s nightmare. I go by what I know and what works for me. It is probably because I have been doing it since I was a little girl and that is what I am used to. I feel what goes into your body is going to show on your skin, so eating healthy is crucial.”

C: What’s your skincare routine like?
ARH:
“I do not have a skincare routine that I follow 365 days a year. It does not work for me. I pretty much just listen to my skin. I do whatever I need to, according to the weather, according to my schedule, or whatever it is that I feel my skin is craving.”

C: And what is your skin craving at the moment?
ARH:
“As I am in Hyderabad right now and the weather is hot and dry, I use a lot of milk on my face. If the weather is humid, then I use aloe vera or sandalwood powder to keep my skin clean...to keep the pores clean. I do things like that, I am a total kitchen baby. Quite often, you will find my purple berry smoothie on my face. Those things just work for me. If I am eating papaya, a bit of it will go on my face. If a tomato is being cut in the kitchen, I will take a little bit and just rub it on to my face. I also use yoghurt, oatmeal, flour, rice powder...pretty much everything I can find in the kitchen.”

C: So you love all things natural, but are there any beauty rules you don’t ever break?
ARH:
“I have one basic rule: keep your body alkaline. You can reduce your acid levels by staying hydrated, drinking vegetable juices, eating right...it really helps your skin. The other thing I currently swear by is the Revitalift Crystal Micro-Essence by L’Oréal Paris. And I am not saying it because I endorse the product, I actually use it and find it great. Especially for somebody like me who travels a lot. It keeps my skin plump and hydrated. I use it thrice a day, including on top of my make-up, which I am not sure if I am supposed to... But I do it, and it works.”

C: It is believed that staying happy also has a positive effect on one’s skin...
ARH:
“I do believe in that! Just like what you put into your body shows on your skin, I feel what you hold in your heart shows on your face. If you are kind, generous, sensitive, loving and positive, it will always reflect in your eyes. There is no substitute for positivity. In today’s time, when there is so much stress and fear, it is so important to spread positivity. There are some of us who are privileged and we are lucky to have a roof over our heads, to have food on our table, have love, have a family, but there are many who are struggling. We can help them, not just monetarily, but also by volunteering, being available for them and helping them when they need it the most. So be happy and spread happiness and you will always look beautiful. I mean it.”
