“I had a kind of an epiphany when I was 17! My father was performing in a play, and he had invited me to watch it. I arrived a little early and went backstage, where my father was sitting alone in the light booth, reading his lines. From the booth, I saw an actor (I can’t recall who it was) rehearsing his lines under a spotlight. That’s when it hit me first. Then, I watched the play: it was a musical, and it blew my mind! By then, I had decided to quit my job as an online editor and pursue theatre. Back then, I didn’t think I would last long...but it’s been about 20 years now! And I’m still as excited as I was on Day One. I’m quite bland as a person in real life, with spurts of madness here and there. I feel that, as an artist, I end up exhausting all the juices of my personality at work, so when I’m not in-character or playing a role, I don’t feel the need to perform. Other than acting, I enjoy the art of music: I can play the percussions, and enjoy collecting instruments like dholak, djembe, and cajón. A fact that very few know about me is that I come from a very humble background—I grew up in Bhayandar (Maharashtra) and didn’t speak English for the most part of my life. Also, when I see good food, I eat very, very fast, like I might never see it again!”
