The Royal Reason Kate Middleton Might NOT Be a Bridesmaid at Pippa's Wedding

Pippa Middleton is officially engaged to her longtime boyfriend, James Matthews, and with the world's most famous bridesmaid soon to become a bride, many have speculated (and hoped) that her sister, Princess Kate, will take on the role of her royal Maid of Honor. According to People, however, it's likely not doing to happen.

"Kate would upstage her sister," royals author Judy Wade said. "It's a tricky situation for Pippa. She would want her sister by her side, as who else would she trust to make things go well? But if your sister is a future Queen, she is going to upstage the bride and draw attention."

The longtime expert raises a pretty good point. If the wedding day is meant to be all about the couple getting married, having an actual princess by your side might make that goal a little bit difficult. Plus, Kate would likely be in charge of her children during the big day, and as People points out, they might have their own roles to play at the wedding.

"Kate would want to be in the background as much as possible," Wade continued, which, to her credit, Pippa very much tried to do on Kate's wedding day, too.

Of course, given that it's Pippa's wedding, she might still decide to have her sister as her bridesmaid, so there's no need to lose hope just yet. Regardless, the wedding is guaranteed to be absolutely beautiful, and one the world won't want to miss.
