Ever since Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas officially committed to each other in a beautiful, private roka ceremony, our social media feeds have been flooded with their pictures and every li'l deet on their relationship has everyone's interest piqued. When Priyanka introduced her then-boyfriend-now-fiancé to her mom, Madhu Chopra, on his first visit to India a few months ago, it was understood that this relationship will go to the next level.
At that time, in conversation with DNA, Madhu Chopra had said, "We just went out for dinner where Nick was present. But it was a large group. There were 10-odd people, so I didn’t get the time to know him that well. I’ve met him for the first time, so it’s too early to form an opinion."
Cut to two months ahead, where Mrs. Chopra celebrated her daughter's official betrothal to the pop-star, to which, all we can say is — well, that escalated quickly! In conversation with a leading portal, Madhu Chopra talked about everything in detail, quite unlike the last time, and even clarified the biggest mystery plaguing all PeeCee fans—"When is the wedding?"
"They haven't decided on a wedding date yet. It's too soon. These are just baseless rumours. Both of them have work commitments right now, which they need to finish. They will take some time to decide where they want it and when they want it," she told a daily.
But keen to have a traditional Indian wedding for her daughter, Priyanka's mom confessed, "My daughter knew I wanted a roka before the marriage, so she never said 'no'. I haven't forced any of my thoughts on her, but I definitely want a traditional Indian wedding. That's my only wish. I started the roka with a puja, which is important for me. I'm a modern mother but at heart, I'm quite conservative."
When questioned about the Quantico star's decision to get married, Madhu Chopra explained how, just like all mothers, she too would worry about her daughter's marriage, until she stopped a few years ago. "Priyanka has always been ambitious about her career and I was just supporting her and wishing the best for her, as a mother. I used to pester her, but in the last two-three years, I had stopped. I had given up. Yeh sab cheez ka ek time hota hai (sic), it's all destiny," she shared.
She even said that she was glad when Priyanka told her that she wanted to get engaged, "I told her that I want to meet Nick's family."
Nick was accompanied by his parents Denise Miller-Jonas and Paul Kevin Jonas (who, FYI, are now ruling the Indian netizens' heart with their adorable posts and vibe in general) for this ceremony. Talking about them and their reaction to the traditional Indian festivities and rituals, Madhu said, "Nick enjoyed the prayers during the puja. It was a new thing for him and he took it seriously. He followed what our panditji said, and chanted the Sanskrit mantras accurately. Both he and his parents did it beautifully. They are nice people."
All praise for her future son-in-law, the happy mom admitted, "Nick is calm and mature. He's a wonderful person and everyone in the family just loves him. He's so polite and respectful towards elders. What more can a mother want!"
